Health Insurance companies Playing doctor.?? a rant!
Edited on Fri Apr-20-07 09:26 AM by flyarm
I just got a letter from my health insurance Solutions section..

I have low grade osteoporosis...and my insurance company sent me a letter telling me to ask my doctor to consider prescribing BONIVA OR FOSAMAX..instead of the medication i am taking Actonel

and the letter says talk to your doctor and ask whether BONIVA OR FOSAMAX would be right for you..

then the letter goes further..

and says..

ASK YOUR DOCTOR TO CONSIDER WRITING A NEW PRESCRIPTION.

Then it is signed by the Director of Pharmacy Practice R.PH> person

then in bold black it has a PS

P.S. Ask your doctor about prescribing a preferred medication. Your Plan will save the most if you take BONIVA or FOSAMAX.

I find this appalling..that my insurance company has the damn nerve to write me and play doctor!

has anyone else gotten a letter like this from their insurance company?

i have never gotten anything like this..and i better not again..i am furious!

I WAS YOUNG WHEN I WENT INTO OSTEOPOROSIS.and my Doctor and i looked very carefully at what medicine to take for a long haul..

i did allot of research on these meds..and chose the one with the least side effects..for a long duration of taking this medication..

and here my insurance company is playing doctor..i am furious..and i am calling them today and i am saying so!

this was the straw that broke the camels back for me today..an insurance company telling me to ask my doctor to change the meds i am taking!!

so now we have the supreme court playing doctor ..the insurance companies telling us what procedures they will pay for ..and now telling us to tell our doctors what meds to prescribe...

enough..i have had enough!

sorry to rant but this was just so angering to me..

My doctor and i know what meds i want and need going into my body..and now the insurance company is telling me to take meds my doctor doesn't like..because of side effects..and the length of time i will be on these meds..

that is just too much !

1. My friend got a similar letter...
She was told to "ask her doctor" to prescribe the generic brand of medication she's taking. We were both pissed.

3. They've got a better $$$ price from Boniva or Fosomax. Nothing to do with what's better,
just what's cheaper.

4. Sometimes they don't know
WTF they're talking about either, I got a similar from my insurance asking me to consider taking the generic form of a medication I take, the only problem is the med named is the generic form! I called them and asked if there was a sub-generic now or what the person I talked to looked it up and came back saying well I don't really understand.......

6. I didn't get a letter they just wouldn't approve my medicine
I have had stomach problems for years. I took zantac, prioslic and other medications until the doctor hit on nexium and it worked fine. I still had attacks that I had to be hospitalzied for but nexium keep it to a minimum. Then our state changed prescription providers. The informed me that the price would go from 3 dollars to 15 for nexium. The doctor would have to justify the use and then approved it for two years. Now they have stopped and told me to go get something else.

I am another person who does not believe that CEO's and clerks should prescribe the medicine you are allowed to take. The pain gets so bad sometimes I have to go to bed. I am thinking of writing to the Nexium people and seeing if the could some how procure it for me. I would continue to pay the 15.00 dollars.
