"Support" is probably too strong a word. In fact, not probably. It is too strong a word.

But .... we're not going to get Mario Cuomo.

So who?

I can't see any insider of Junior, Poppy, or St. Ronnie getting the job. Remember, we hold the cards and the Senate's gotta confirm the next one.

They won't nominate a Dem, that's for sure.

So who?

I'm thinking Bob Barr. Much as I dislike the guy and would like top see him filleted, roasted, and served at a Clinton fundraiser, he might actually a good, albeit very conservative, AG.

We're not gonna get anyone we want, so who can you tolerate?

1. I seriously wouldn't mind Orrin Hatch (who I heard wants the job)
1) He'd only serve for around 2 years.
2) No more Senate floor tantrums to suffer through on C-Span2.
3) Probably easily confirmed.

14. We could do MUCH worse ... considering Little Boots' track record
He could appoint Harriet Miers (ha!) or Dan Bartlett or some other insider toadie. Yes, Hatch is a windbag but at least he's not some Texas crony or a 30-year-old from Regent University!

10. Maybe we should hope he picks someone who screws-up even worse than Gonzo did.
Who could Bush find who is even dumber....

I know...

Attorney General Donald Thompson

Verdict Coming For "Penis Pump" Judge
Closing arguments today in exposure trial of ex-Oklahoma jurist

6/30 UPDATE: After five hours of deliberation, an Oklahoma jury last night convicted Donald Thompson of indecent exposure and recommended that the former judge serve a year in prison on each of four felony counts. His sentencing was scheduled for August 14.

JUNE 29--Closing arguments are scheduled today in the trial of the former Oklahoma judge charged with indecent exposure for using a penis pump (among other really gross acts) while on the bench. Donald Thompson, 59, is facing felony counts for his alleged lewd behavior while a Creek County District Court jurist (Thompson resigned from the bench in 2004). According to a yucky probable cause affidavit, a copy of which you'll find below, Thompson exposed himself during three separate 2003 cases (two of which were murder trials). For example, on May 13, while he was presiding over State v. Kurt Arnold Vomberg (who was accused of killing his girlfriend's 21-month-old daughter), Thompson loudly pumped himself up. Two court employees told investigators that they saw Thompson (pictured in the mug shot at right) attach the suction device to his penis, while five jurors reported hearing whooshing sounds, which they thought were coming from either a bicycle pump, blood pressure cuff, or an air cushion on the judge's chair. After a search of Thompson's former courtroom and chambers yielded items that tested positive for seminal fluid, investigators secured a search warrant to obtain a DNA sample from the ex-jurist. Thompson's demise was triggered by a complaint filed against him by the Oklahoma Attorney General, who sought to oust the jurist for a variety of illicit behavior. Along with using the penis pump, Thompson also allegedly shaved and oiled his private parts, according to accounts given to state investigators by court employees. If convicted of the indecent exposure counts, Thompson could face a maximum of 10 years in prison on each charge.

He performed his duties with the pump fitted and operating.

After all, dignity must be restored to the cabinet post after Gonzo.

9. I don't think that'll happen
He's got too much baggage from the 2000 election and from Clinton crotch sniffing.

And what makes him so 'stellar'? Not quarrelling with you, but why does everyone say that about him? He's a party hack.

5. I could actually tolerate Bob Barr...
He's pro-legalization of medical marijuana, and he's been appalled by the suppression of our civil liberties at the hands of BushCo. He'd be one of the very few Replicans that I could tolerate in the position. For that reason, he's the last one I expect to be nominated!
I'm still not sure BushCo will dump Gonzo...you know how The Decider likes to dig in his heels against anything sensible. The stubborn spoiled child in him will resist being told what he should do.

22. Bush would never appoint Bob Barr. Barr has been one of the few
to consistently speak out against the so-called Patriot Act. His record on that is better than most of our Democratic "leaders." As a consequence, Bush wouldn't want to have anything to do with him.

Nights in White House Satin
The Comings and Goings of Jeff Gannon

By GARY LEUPP

Why aren't we hearing more about the "Jeff Gannon" (James Guckert) affair? Back in February, always the optimist I wrote, "Perhaps we are on the edge of a major scandal here," and inquiring minds have indeed dug up more dirt.

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) got on the case, using the Freedom of Information Act to precisely chronicle, on the basis of Secret Service records, the bogus reporter and real-life prostitute's White House entries and exits. From the Secret Service material, Raw Story researcher Muriel Kane produced this listing; I've put the more interesting material in bold font:

21. I like your suggestion of Mario Cuomo awfully well but agree with you
that it's unlikely he'll be asked.

Dubya's first vp choice, according to some reports, was former Missouri Senator John Danforth.

Danforth might not want to sully his hands with the mess Gonzales has made, but I would certainly prefer Danforth to Gonzales.

Of course as far as that goes I'd prefer Richard Speck to Gonzales.

Barr? It could be.

25. David Iglesias
That'd be the smart choice. Replace Gonzo with a well qualified attorney that he fired. However, I bet It'll be some knuckle dragger.

26. I don't think a knuckle dragger will get through the Senate.
Junior's gunna hafta come up with someone reasonable.

Which is why maybe he won't fire Gonzo.
