The "OFF" Button Is My New Friend
The moment the horrendous news of the shootings on the campus of VT, I listened to the initial broadcast and then turned the television off. I knew, from the onslaught of 24/7 news the previous days of "Imus", the onslaught of "Anna Nicole" I couldn't stand another minute. After the media aired the important and vital information that we needed to know it was time for them to milk it for every despicable moment they could. I tuned into Keith Olbermann last night and saw that he was to continue with the subject, that has now become diluted and made me hate the media more with every day.

Back in the day, news like this was, perhaps a few times during the day but then normal programming resumed. I read my newspaper, listen to the FM station on my radio and find a calmness closing in. News readers, for some inexplicable reason, are of the opinion they are professional analysts. They ask, by far, the dumbest of dumb questions i.e. "how do you feel?" Enough already. I've been quite a few days now without my television emitting the blah, blah, blahs of pseudo-psychologists and have even turned to re-broadcasts of Garrison Keillor as one example. Very calming voice, nothing manic, sort of corny and enjoyable. I find my local FM station to have a very informative and interesting morning drive format with a lot of news and little drama. They report the news, all of it, and that is all I need. I have come to this conclusion; the "OFF" button is my new friend..

2. You might consider getting rid of the box/cable altogether.
It really frees up your time and allows a sense of peace and quiet to enter your life.

And you can catch the best shows on DVD, later, if you really want to.

3. Me, too! Can't stand it...
It has become more and more obvious to me that there isn't 24 hours worth of news worth watching.

All they do is endlessly loop the same stories over and over and over all day and night. This is how they build small, local stories into huge national "debates."

In other news: Sanjaya lost!

How silly can the American public get?
