9. Not making light of this, but this is what happens in Iraq every day.

This is the kind of carnage that wasts the lives of too many people there.

What's McCain's opinion of this mess?

I agree that it is a fucking nightmare. My wife works on a campus, this gives me the willies.

5. Hard times are usually responsible for these types of things, people
have a breaking point, and we've been breaking millions of people for 7 years, and many people are into decades of hard time now.

So sad.

7. This would be considered a slow day in Iraq. Doesn't make it any less tragic, though.

13. Unleashed Hell!
The world's largest exporter of war and weapons should really not be shocked by this. This is just a glimpse of what is done in our name daily.

18. It's always harder to take when it hits home. The 400-500 killed daily in Iraq
(a country of 25 million when the war began) is abstract in people minds.

When something like this happens in our country people are shocked. I'm always a little amazed by that, but you would think I'd learn by now.

It is a tragedy, none the less. But no less of a tradgedy than we inflict daily in far larger numbers on other people in other places.

4. OMG. Last I heard there was only one confirmed dead. This is terrible. Just insane.
Something really needs to be done in this country to stem the flow of hatred that runs so rampant through our society, a society in which it seems that anyonoe can pick up a gun and start shooting away so easily. Disgusting and heartbreaking.

8. Listening to an online scanner I think they are having count issues
They are unwilling to "count" on public airwaves and the cellphone circuits are jammed. I heard them say they will have to go to a runner system. It might be awhile until the total numbers are known.

16. Let's hope THIS horrible incident doesn't give birth to copycats.
I truly believe we have so many people near the breaking point...mentally and financially...it wouldn't be surprising for someone to want to go out with a front page news item.

17. This would be just another day in Iraq/Baghdad..
Just remember that. THis weekend how many Iraqies were blown to bits? It is tragic that this has occured and that a lot of students are dead...but if you are an Iraqie I suspect your response might be...Only 30 dead..you got off easy!
