Rasmussen: Edwards now leads all Republican hopefuls in 2008 polls (8-point lead among independents)

Edwards Leads Giuliani, Thompson
Rasmussen Reports
Monday, April 9, 2007

----
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) now leads all Republican hopefuls in Election 2008 polls. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Edwards leading former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) 49% to 43%. That’s the first time Edwards has ever had an advantage over Giuliani. During 2006, the man dubbed “America’s Mayor” led Edwards by an average of nine percentage points in Rasmussen Reports polling. In three previously monthly polls during 2006, Giuliani led Edwards by an average of four percentage points.

In the latest poll, both Giuliani and Edwards do well within their own party. However, Edwards has an eight-point lead among voters not affiliated with either major party.

The poll also found Edwards leading the newest face in the race, former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson (R). In fact, the North Carolinian holds a fourteen percentage point advantage, 50% to 36%. This was the first time an Edwards-Thompson match has been polled. Earlier polls found Edwards leading Arizona Senator John McCain, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and former Arkansas Governor Mike Hucakbee.

Edwards has consistently placed third in the weekly Rasmussen Reports polls for the Democratic nomination, trailing Clinton and Obama. His favorability ratings shot up following a recent press conference announcing that his wife’s cancer has returned. In fact, Edwards receives favorable reviews from 57% of Likely Voters, within a single point of Giuliani’s total. Thirty-five percent (35%) have an unfavorable opinion. Before the news about his wife was released, Edwards was viewed favorably by 47% and unfavorably by 45%.

2. Good news for John.
I'm a Hillary supporter, but I love hearing news like this. We have a great field of candidates and I think the primary is going to be very exciting.

4. Edwards is very impressive.
I like both Clinton and Obama, but Edwards takes the cake in my opinion. He's got the grassroots support, he's got the message, and he's got the ability to win the nomination and win the general election. Unless Clark or Gore get in, he's got my support 100%!!

7. He has coattails too. If I were a Dem pol I'd support Edwards just to make my own elections easier.
His coattails will help every single solitary Democrat on the ticket. And he'll do it again in 4 years.

10. Don't worry
he's doing just that.

All the while extending his lead in IA, NV and SC. Mostly under the radar of the MSM.

13. You would never know it from hearing Wolf or Tucker today.
At 4:00 it was all Obama Obama Obama Obama Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary. Wolf was all excited over a "Dream Ticket" of the two, a ticket that IMO would be catastrophic.

No mention of Edwards or the Rasmussen Poll. Gee, I wonder who the corporate media want for our nominees?
