Sam Waterson has joined Unity 2008
Perhaps Fred Thompson is eyeing the Unity 2008 ticket, since his castmate has declared support for the group.

The star of "Law & Order" told George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week" he has joined Unity '08, a group that would like to elect a bipartisan ticket to the White House.

"There's a huge majority of the American people who are ready for this, who are not represented in the current system. And this is an opportunity for those people to speak up," the actor said.

"I think by its existence it will have a beneficial effect on anybody who's running for president, because they will be obliged to look over their other shoulder at the center, and not simply address the partisan factions that have so much sway in primaries," Waterston said.

3. The "Unity" Party is a non-starter.
The philosphical differences are just too big.

14. It is to me but I've already had two people say to me that they like they idea.
These are people who are normally apolitical, and I suspect the idea could appeal to a lot of people like that.

4. Sam's alright, I guess, but I think his reading of the electorate is haywire.
I just don't see Unity08 going anywhere.

8. Kindly check spelling
Sam's surname is "Waterston". His brother, George, is an ardent liberal who is against the war and very pro environment, as is Sam. Sam and his wife contributed the max to the Kerry campaign, btw. Some old friends talked Sam into going with Unity08 several months ago as a way of getting some politicians to do something different, like respond to the people rather than corporations. Sam continues to be very active in the humanitarian group, Refugees International, as well as several other organizations, including SAG. (Yeah, I'm a sort of fan of the fellow and have followed his career and activities for years.)

I've been to the Unity08 site several times, and find it interesting in that the conservatives and liberals there don't seem to be finding much common ground. What intrigues me about the site is how they are trying to use the Internet to allow the netroots craft questions for candidates to answer, write a platform, and finally to vote for candidates. I see it as seeing how far we can go politically using the internet as a tool. I'm sure the Dems and publicans are both watching, just in case one of the Unity08 ideas turns out to be workable--and why not? Neither main party has had to put out a dime to conduct the experiment!

9. Idiots
Are all people who support a unity ticket idiots, or just misinformed?

Let me help:

The Vice-President has only two constitutional duties: break ties in the Senate and replace a dead, disabled, impeached, or resigned president.

That is all! Any additional powers the VP may assume are explicitly granted to him by the President. Cheney is powerful because Bush has granted him the authority to be powerful!

If you think that a Democratic VP to a Republican President will be as powerful as Cheney, you are sadly mistaken.

13. I like Sam Waterson.
I heard him speak last year. Nothing about politics, nothing about "Law & Order."

About literacy, the power and beauty and elegant use of words.

I'm not up for joining an R&D in power, though. That's too much like business as usual, in my book.

I'd like to see unity among voters determined to vote tptb and business as usual out, replacing them with non-elite, non-corporate, non-ivy league representatives that have more incentive to represent the masses.

I really don't care what party designation that comes under. The party is important to me when it is organized to benefit the majority of citizens, and for no other reason.
