Bush bypasses Senate to name ambassador

Bush withdrew the nomination last month. On Wednesday, with Congress out of town for a spring break, the president used his power to make recess appointments to put Fox in the job without Senate confirmation.using a maneuver that allowed him to bypass Congress where Democrats had derailed Fox's nomination.

1. Fer crying out loud, they are on Easter break, that's precisely why the coward
did this. I'm sure the Senators will be making a big stink about it. Why disparage them?

And check this out; they're working on it:

2. if this was the first time......
then I'd go easy on them. But Bush has been end running them for years and they've done little.

They need to know that they are damaging an important institution.

8. This is the first time since the grown-ups took power.
Is it really that hard to figure that out, or are you being disingenuous?

NGU.

3. dispicable. Only one thing to be grateful for: he can't
do the same with gonzo unless he resigns before he testifies.

4. I agree, this BS recess appointment crapshould stop, but
I don't THINK Congress can do anything about them...short of never taking another break. As I understand the recess appointment rule, these appointments stayin their position until a new Congress takes office.

5. Hopefully this will put the Congressional majority in a less than compromising mood
when they return after the Easter break...

6. So your suggestion is what?
The Senate should never go on break?

Presidents have been doing recess appointments for years and will continue to do so in the future.

Short of never going on break, it's part of the process.

It doesn't make them look like a joke that this happened.

7. The Boy King is taking a beating and he knows it; this appointment was
a juvenile, petulant nose-thumbing at the Congress.
Mother Nancy will make him sit in his corner when she gets home. Unka Dick clearly is not capable of tyrant-sitting.

contact your own US Senators and let them know just how very concerned you are. Tell me, who are your Senators anyways?

Oh wait, I know who they are now......Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback....republians too. They may be able to get right in to see the president on this issue.

10. Has this ever happened, that a candidate withdrew knowing they'd
be defeated and then were made a recess appointment?
