What's Freaking Out Bushies Monica Goodling and Sara Taylor?
Pre-emptive exertion of 5th Amendment rights aside, why are these girls acting as if they were captured by vampires? Do they fear and distrust their fellow Americans so much that they fear for their lives? Do they have no abiding faith in the system of government and the honesty of public servants? Have they committed heinous crimes that will not be explained away anytime in the next century? The overreactions are striking and inexplicable. I doubt that either of these pretty young things has committed treasonable or capital offenses, or that they are privy to such doings by other hands. So why the Sturm und Drang? You would think they were being asked to convert to Devil Worship.

But let's let the possible crimes rest. Have you noticed that none of these people seem to have an exit plan?

I'll grant you that the two barely adult females may be too inexperienced, sheltered Mafia princesses to have the wit to plan ahead. Both Rove and Cheney have survived setbacks under Nixon and Reagan--yet they don't seem to have any convenient exits, either. Granted, Poppy could have been the one to pull their chestnuts out of the fires of history before. But Poppy's not in a position to do such magic anymore.

Cheney could always die, by accident or on purpose, I suppose, but he never struck me as being particularly selfless and Spartan. Still, it beats prison.

Rove may think he had every contingency covered, but he's running out of wiggle room faster than expected. Things just haven't gone his way since November of 2006. And his future in Rap is not promising, so he's got to try to keep his day job options....

Dumbya's usual exit plan--let the grownups clean up after him--is not going to work, this time. Nobody, but nobody, is rushing to fall on their swords or go down on their knees to mop up the mess. Not even Mumsy and Dad.

1. They Know What They Know
1. They know who they work for. The definining characteristic of those powerful men: retribution for disloyalty.

2. They want immunity. Their lawyers know how Oliver North used it to avoid a later conviction for perjury. Once they get "transaction" immunity, they'll take an "immunity bath" -- i.e., sing like birdies. If they're smart, and if Congress and the U.S. Attorney's office (wow!) give them "transaction" immunity.

This is FUN! Kinda like watching the mongoose vs. the cobra.

4. Those Letters Don't Look Like Immunity Courtship
They look like whacked out defiance with no counterweight to support it.

The idea of BushCo retribution would have been plausible, had so many different schemes not all gone to smash simultaneously. I don't think the BushMasters can pull off any retribution now, and that ability diminishes with every day that passes. When Congress is through with BushCo, there won't be two sticks left to rub together.

I do wish Congress would act a little more swiftly--while there may be pleasure in watching the bastards squirm under water torture, the rest of the country is dying rapidly. Lance the boil and let healing proceed!

But there are no hints of such fanaticism coming out. I sincerely doubt that Plan B is a Plan B. I can't see the whole Bush Borg downing poison in a mass immolation.

They should be held accountable for their actions.

Both of them are over 30.

6. wait, wait, wait
Goodling is 33 years old and groomed for her tasks by a pit viper, Barbara Comstock. Goodling worked for Comstock in 2000 when Comstock ran the opposition research (dirty tricks) team for the RNC. When Comstock went over to work at DoJ, Goodling followed her.

Comstock is considered by many to be the vilest product of the Independent Womens Forum, which also produced Coulter and Barbara Olson. She's best buds with Kate O'Beirne and Barbara Ledeen. There is some question about the possibility that Comstock was involved with the production or dissemination of the Niger yellowcake forgery. She worked doing research for Dan Burton when he was hammering the Clintons. She headed up the Scooter Libby slush fund, and ran P.R. for Tom Delay.

And Goodling is her protege. Not exactly the barely legal naif characterized in OP.

7. Good Points. But Losing One's Cool Like That is Just Bad Form
and bad for the career. The point of politics is longevity. These girls are headed for burnout. And while they may be of age, they sure as hell don't act it, hence girls.

15. Again, they are WOMEN, not "girls". Do you call men in their 20s or 30s "boys"?
Language does matter.
It's demeaning to call an adult woman a girl, and many of us get very tired of it.

...In that picture...yeah, she's probably got a pit bull lawyer, but she is SCARED! The F'n tea party is over and she knows what the deal is. And it's worse than daddy's belt. Let them grope and take the 5th. More info keeps seeping out, it's like the Monty Python Blackmail Game...How much incriminating evidence is needed before they break and pay out? ...My guess, not much.

11. We will be amazed at the rational when it comes out. Such as
a) Congress has no standing during wartime. b)non Christians should not be questioning her or the President. c) the constitution means nothing during wartime.

They will state the neocon line and not even try to hide it. This will open the box and I hope Congress is ready for it.

13. So Congress should rescind the authorization
Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 11:25 PM by frogcycle
then it won't be "wartime." Actually, its not wartime anyway - Congress did not declare war. The last legal war we have been in is WWII.

The "authorization" to use force to disarm SH ran out long ago. About the time of "Mission Accomplished." Ever since that fateful day, GWB has been operating without authorization. He said it himself. He accomplished the mission congress gave him. Now he is running an illegal op, just like Ollie North. And he does not get to say "War on Terror" and have it mean anything. Hell, Johnson declared "War on Poverty." There is a "War on Drugs." Those do not make this be "wartime." The nation is NOT at war. GWB has sent the nation's military, illegally, to conduct operations of vague purpose, gotten over his head, and is now screaming for emergency funding. He's used to being bailed out - gets out of the draft, gets off drunken driving charges, gets daddy's lawyer to talk the SCOTUS into anointing him, and he's demanding another bailout.

If he vetoes that thing then Congress should just say "then start packing; gotta be out by July when the funds run out. You screwed the pooch, chump!"

BTW, US fatalities this month were double those of the Iraqi military, which is purportedly doing the brunt of the fighting.

They will both be living in exile in the next 3 to 6 years, if Cheney's "heart" makes it that far and Chimp doesn't drink himself to death, I'm convinced of it, and literally dozens of their minions will be rotting in jail. That's what's freaking them out, it's all becoming so clear to all the 'bottys.
