2. Unlike Rumsfeld
the AG is not a stand alone crook. if he goes the whole web of WH illegality may unravel, no one is likely to come in as a replacement to do the very dirty work so necessary and now so revealed.

What it boils down to is that Gonzales might be let go IF there is some sort of exhaustion or deal to go no further- which seems very very unlikely AND if they can get someone other crony in there to help save their hide- and at this level the new AG would have to be more corrupt than any Nixon AG just to start with. So the play when doing wrong is to stall, stonewall and hope the other side- or something else- breaks, goes away or is pushed aside by new events.

With Rumsfeld a new defense secretary for the time being helped the WH survive and his case was as isolated as Scooter the Scapegoat's. This case is unbelievably entangled in WH dirt exposed very much in the e-mails we do have and the scandal of those we mysteriously don't.

Hagel finally said the "I" word. This is where it will go unless they start throwing their compatriots to the wolves.

Twisting slowly, slowly in the wind.

4. Nice summary. I myself never imagined that Gonzales would be in this kind of
vortex so soon after the new Democratic Congressional majority took control.

And, that Rove would be so frickin' closely and publicly tied to Gonzales's crimes and misdemeanor.

Sigh, and it's not even April. :loveya: MKJ

3. I wouldn't say that the Shrub* bailed him out, rather, I think,
he rewarded Alberto with a "Well done, Gonzo!"

5. because they couldn't confirm another consigliere
They are further ahead standing by Gonzo than trying to get another Bush consigliere through the confirmation hearings, Bush couldn't even get Stephen Reinhardt confirmed AG, and he is known as "the most liberal judge in America"

9. huh?
I am saying that Bush has so little clout left that he couldn't get a confirmation for AG if he dug up Clarence Darrow!
Gonzo will stick around because nobody would be able to pass confirmation to replace him,

10. OK, so you predicated your post on the assumption that Darrow is a liberal.
I appreciate your clarification and I may disagree with the premise, but I can completely understand your perspective and will be ruminating on this very question tonight.

Welcome, your discourse is great! :toast: MKJ

Fitzmas . . .

2000 was a coup. There is no justice in the USA. Our "democracy" is a Potemkin Village. We occupy ourselves with pointless rooting for one professional wrestler of a politician or another, when all the time the script is written, the fix is in, the outcome is inevitable.
