Clinton/Lincoln ticket, give your thoughts
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 04:53 AM by Hippo_Tron
Please don't turn this into a Hillary bashing thread because this discussion isn't about issues it's about strategy.

If Senator Clinton gets the nomination I think one interesting possibility for the number two slot would be Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas. An all female ticket would really put an emphasis on the first female President theme (if she wants to do that) and would also help her compete in Arkansas where she may have a chance of winning because she was first lady there.

What does everyone think?

2. I'd imagine that the General would be on her short list too
But I'd think that after further consideration, most candidates would be extremely reluctant to make Clark the VP. Through no fault of their own, he would simply upstage all of them on foreign policy.

not when it comes to the American people.

7. i think she will get Evan Bayh as VP running mate if she wins
the nomination.

not sure what i think about Lincoln. when Clinton picked Gore i believe Gore was more popular at the time in the southern conservative leaning areas especially after the primary run in 88. Lincoln doesn't seem to have the same thing from what i know.

and i think she might already get help in Arkansas with Bill. so she might focus on other areas. Wes Clark would be a better choice if she wants someone from Arkansas also.

8. I agree about Evan Bayh
& you're right about Arkansas.

I don't see what Lincoln adds to a ticket.

I'll need to find a hazmat suit to vote! That would be a strategy that would turn me off, at least. How many others would it turn off?

Well, why don't you just hand the Republicans 2008? The Republicans are weak in 2008 (don't believe the polls about the caricature that is Guliani or McCain). Want to improve their position? Give them that ticket.

11. Two conservative Dems from Arkansas-won't work
Lincoln voted with repukes about 90% of the time. She's anti-choice. She's also from Arkansas, the same state Hillary lived in for so many years. A Veep should be from a state where you can pick up a lot of electoral votes. Arkansas has six total.

17. Hillary Clinton would be a disaster, but you have the right idea
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 06:08 PM by NDP
The only way to improve Hillary Clinton's national chances of winning is for her to run with someone with an "R" behind their name. If you don't think she should do that, then you'd be insane to nominate her. She shouldn't be nominated anyway.

15. Any ticket with Hillary Clinton on it is a terrible ticket
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 06:03 PM by NDP
If Hillary Clinton gets coronated the only way she wins the Presidency is if she runs with a Republican like Chuck Hagel. She may as well, because I won't be participating in 2008, regardless.

Why in the world would Democrats want to start off 50/50 with absolutely zero chance of winning over swing voters? Nominate Hillary Clinton, and you go nowhere but down.

Hillary being nominated is not a predestined thing. Obama has a good shot, I believe. A very good shot.

20. Half the people here insist America isn't ready for a female president
I'm not one of them.

But a female president and a female vice president? Now that I KNOW America would think twice about!

23. For the GOP, maybe.
Geez. Lincoln's even more conservative than Clinton.

I'm still holding out some hope that Hillary will see the gross error of her ways and come clean on Iraq. Please don't make the same mistake Kerry did, Hillary!

You f'd up, you trusted a schnook who you knew was not in the least trustworthy. Confess, and be forgiven.

But with Lincoln? No, that doesn't excite me at all. And I'm definitely predisposed to want at least one woman.

25. Obama/Lincoln or Richardson/Lincoln would be more likely
Or even Edwards/Lincoln.

No way would the Democratic establishment allow two women to head up the ticket together.
