HuffPost: Geffen's Hillary Criticism Is 'Nothing I Haven't Heard From Women Voters Across America'
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 09:18 AM by marmar
The Huffington Post | Melinda Henneberger

WASHINGTON - Just this once, Hollywood is perfectly in sync with Middle America, with David Geffen faithfully channeling Main Street, U.S.A.

As Geffen goes, so goes Kansas City?

All I can tell you is, everything he told Maureen Dowd last week - about his own feeling that Hillary Clinton is just too polarizing, and poll-tested out the ying-yang - is nothing I hadn't heard over and over in 18 months worth of interviews with women voters across the political spectrum, in 20 states from Massachusetts to Arizona and Oregon to Louisiana.

Geffen, who raised millions for Bill Clinton, told Dowd, "I don't think that another incredibly polarizing figure, no matter how smart she is...can bring the country together.''

Or as Mary Jane Arrington, a former Democratic county official in Florida's Osceola County put it to me, "I think Bill Clinton could get reelected, but I don't think Hillary can, and I hope she's smart enough to know that. She's smart, but she comes across as a pushy woman. She's not the right one, and to break the glass ceiling, you have to be the right one.'' ......(more)

3. But, is it misogyny when it's a woman - particularly a woman
who seems to have had a professional career herself - says it?

I wouldn't describe HRC as "pushy," but I would ascribe the "polarizing" word to her.

2. I have to agree with the fact that Hillary IS a polarizing figure
I don't think there is anyone in recent memory that can divide the people like she can. I think it's a bit archaic to use the played out device of her being 'pushy'--she's being just as aggressive as the others who want the nomination need to be if it's what they want... what bothers me about her is her steering the Democrats to the center instead of steering them a bit more left of center.

I understand that being able to reach across the aisle to garner cooperation from the thugs when they used to hold the majority was a necessary evil in the day; however, I don't think it also requires her to keep on embracing and proclaiming right-wing non-issue rhetoric as her own, like flag burning, or not owning that, whether or not it was her initial intention to get this country into a protracted, unnecessary war, she voted to support the invasion of Iraq. The more she struggles to disown this, the less viable as a candidate she will become. She will begin looking as ridiculous her husband parcing the verb "is" if she continues on her path. I think she would gain far more respect if she would say "you know what? I made a huge mistake. I should never have voted to support this war, no matter what evidence was used to hoodwink me and my colleagues in the Senate". She would gain quite a few points with me if she would just quit trying to distance herself from what she clearly did and own up to her mistake.

4. That's my worry....that there are too many minds that cannot and will not be changed...
about Hillary Clinton. There's a built-in 48 percent who don't like her, and she cannot win with that.

5. Whuh? Another "Clinton hater" article?
"You're either with us or you're against us."
- Terry McAuliffe in response to someone who was thinking about giving money to multiple candidates at a fundraiser in Beverly Hills

It's that simple. I guess...

:sarcasm:

6. Mary Jane Arrington is a smart woman!
Not only does Hillary Clinton widen the Left/Right split, but she divides the Left within itself, and she divides the Center within itself.

I think it would be great to have a woman on the ticket. And in that spirit, let me throw out a few ideas:

Clark/Sebelius
Clark/Stabenow
Richardson/Sebelius
Richardson/Stabenow
Clark/Napolitano
Richardson/Lincoln

:)
