Am I the only one who does not want to hear about the 2008 Presidential
.... race right now?
Too much & too soon I feel like I am suffering from non stop campaigning
fatigue.

I wish all the dems well and hope they build their bases nicely but I don't want to
hear anything until Dec of '07. Seems to me that if we focus on Iraq,
Health Insurance, a clean vote, protection of the environment, investigations
into bush / Cheney, energy policies, and job protection / creation whomever wins the
nomination will be in good standing for the general election.

3. I am SO with you on this one.
If all the '08 coverage time was spent on the various congressional committees out there trying to start unsnarling the repug mess, or spent discussing legislative "fixes" for the gross unconstitutionalities scattered around the repug legislation that got through during the past 6 years....Americans would be in a MUCH better position to know what to do with their votes by the time '08 actually rolls around!

4. It's like a bad addiction.
Posting about 2008, that is. One day I decided I was going to come here, and post about anything BUT the 2008 election. I got about 15 minutes into searching around, when I noticed a thread about one of the 2008 candidates that pissed me off. I ended up spending 30-45 minutes in that thread, back and forth with someone.

I try and quit cold turkey, but always find my way back

The big Shiny Object called The 2008 Presidential Election?

You know what's really fun? WAR! Now there's some real high stakes gamesmanship in Iraq. Pow! Pow! Bang!

I'm hoping you forgot the sarcasm smilie. Otherwise my comments are dead serious :sarcasm:

Too much too soon for sure. Sometimes I don't think I can bear it anymore. (Sorry, couldn't resist!) Your list of issues that need to be addressed now not later is right on target.

And I love the photo--what an awesome and beautiful creature!

6. Agreed,........
--- They squabble about their respective favorite candidates because that is a form of TALKING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE,.. which is what a certain class of individuals do. There is another class of individuals who prefer TALKING ABOUT IDEAS,... and there is an old saying which offers a whimsical delineation of these two groups. That whimsical old saying would not go over very well in the DU, either.

7. No, I think most of us feel that way.
I can't prove it, but I don't think all-out primary coverage EVER began this early before.

I think hardly ANYONE wants to see or hear this just now. I think the media KNOW PERFECTLY WELL that hardly anyone wants to see or hear this just now.

They do it because they're DETERMINED to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to cover for the genocidal looters, murderers, torturers and traitors that run this filthy regime. Absent ANY good news about ANYTHING, the only tactic left is to ANNIHILATE ALL news - by filling the time, the air, and the pages with anything and everything BUT news.

If it's fluff, they broadcast it. If no gives a fuck about it, they scream it from the rooftops.

Let's stipulate that every Democratic candidate is a great American, a wonderful Democrat, and a stand-up parent and spouse. That said, I don't AT THIS TIME give a FLYING FUCK about Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Clark, Kucinich or any other candidate who is running or may run. Do you?

28. Your explaination seems correct
The media finds it cheap and easy to talk about the Clinton/Obama, McCain/Guilliani and the dead blond.

To have the candidates or possible candidates be shown from time to time giving a speech, C-span for instance, great, but not a constant barage of "what does it all mean" banter.

We want to know about what is happening in Iraq, Libby's trial and what's happening in Congress. Little things like that. Things that matter. If I want to be intertained a movie would do fine, or anything but the 08 & the blond.

9. What I REALLY Want to Hear Is IMPEACHMENT
Anything else is just farting in the wind. If we don't impeach these thugs, we will never get them out of power, period. Elections won't matter, nothing will matter, and we'll have to stage a Second Revolution, or Civil War: The Final Solution.

19. 100% do NOT want to hear about it at all.....
I feel it's another "shiny thing" and now Dems are providing distraction by campaigning this early. The media is in on it and that should be reason enough not to give them ONE more story that isn't of the utmost importance right now.

We are in a "country of emergency" right now. This is NO time to for the cat and dog fights against each other (meaning those running)...

Our vets NEED us to get them timely medical care, a working system, and clean quarters for rehabilitation.

Our troops need us to get them the hell home.

Our children HERE at home are living in poverty (the numbers are appalling)

Our elderly choose heat and shelter and food OVER meds.

Our jobs are being outsourced.

Our taxes are being ROBBED.

Our CO2 emissions are destroying the planet.

Isn't that enough to take care of?

IMO, I am LIVID that our reps think it is time to take an EXTENDED Presidents Day /WEEK vacation!!

They ought to be bringing their pajamas and spending nights to fix this mess in our country.

God!

31. I agree
I think the constant attention to the political races overshadows that fact that someone is actually supposed to be governing.

When is Congress going to revoke the Military Tribunals Act? Investigate warrantless searches?

Running for President makes some Senators completey worthless as government officials because they are constantly walking on eggshells hoping not to say the wrong thing. They are unwilling to take stands that might look bad in election.

It seems like if the Congress actually got something accomplished that in itself would be the best campaign ad.

41. Only ones who "really" care on DU are paid bloggers.
IMHO, I truthfully believe that a majority of us really do not care at this point. I for one do not want to have a million"who do you like better" threads for the next friggin' year. I would really like for us to stay in the day. There are a million topics to discuss.
I suspect that bloggers for the "major" candidates (OF BOTH PARTIES) are tossing ideas, thoughts, POLLS and the like on DU and other sites to get a feel of where people are. The most insidious are the gotcha games that are the tried and true of the right wing.
I say enough.
Anyone care to join me......and us?

Which is why I try not to go onto those threads - but sometimes it seems they are the only active threads on this site. At least half the people we are fighting over here are going to drop out before the primaries - what a waste of time. And, the media...well, they're an even bigger waste of time, no matter what topic they're on.
