Al Gore creates frenzy in Toronto; 23,000 vie for 1,500 tickets to speech
City News: V.P.-Turned-Environmentalist Al Gore Creates Frenzy At University of Toronto
Wednesday February 21, 2007

He's a former Vice-President of the United States.

His movie, "An Inconvenient Truth", is up for an Oscar.

And he's the poster boy for the environment - printed on recycled paper of course.

All of which is making Al Gore a hot ticket in Toronto.

The American politician turned environmentalist came to the U. of T. Wednesday night for a long awaited speech, and there were throngs of fans to greet him.

So were ticket scalpers, who are seeing a different type of green. Reports indicate more than 20,000 people were trying to get their hands on a ducat for the event. But there's only room for 1,500 of them inside....

***

"It's like a boy band or something coming to town because people just are clamouring to see Al Gore," laughs Catherine Febria. "It's kind of funny."

Cameras weren't allowed inside, but those who paid to listern to him speak were impressed.

"He was powerful," said one fan. "It was from the heart. It was unbelievable."...

5. He's a hero for our age -- speak up for him!
Al Gore creates a frenzy everywhere he goes. Canada loves him, but in Boise, Idaho, the heart of red America, 10,000 tickets for his speech vanished in a few hours. Meanwhile a friend of mine who went to a Hillary Clinton event in NH said he got a front seat and arrived 30 minutes before the event. Try that with a Gore speech!

In an age of cowards, Al Gore alone has dared to address issues of moral imperative head on and speak truth to power. The establishment may be blind to it, but people are hungry for such leadership.

If you agree, let your voice be heard. Join 36,000 others who signed the petition asking Gore to run.

Thanks.

6. One small correction....the article says....
...."The American politician turned environmentalist", insinuating that this is a recent cause.....

Gore has been an environmentalist for many years. "Earth In The Balance" written in 1992, states, "Passionate defender of the environment for more than twenty years, Senator Al Gore is now convinced that the engines of human civilization have brought us to the brink of catastorophe...."

Other than that, I'm more than proud that others are beginning to hear the message he has been preaching for a long, long time.

It is a shame to read that people bought good seats at the regular price and then scalped them to get ten times the amount thery bought them for by using his name. I sure hope they gave that money to an environmental charity (yeah, right.) Hopefully some people went who will also see the urgency of the crisis before us. I also hope he remains safe. He had a security detail for this appearance as well and stayed at an undisclosed hotel for only one night... but that is I am sure because he has given the finger to the status quo in favor of giving truth to the masses. Definitely not something a "politician" would do. Thank you, Mr. Gore.

11. These folks in Toronto were eager to hear a real U.S. president, as
opposed to a fake one, and Gore fills the bill.

Gore has changed the debate with AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH.

12. On the day the media recount of the Florida vote is announced
a plane crashes in New York City. I will go to my grave believing that was no accident. It was the final act that sealed the the Great Conservative Revolution of 2000.

15. Al Gore Campaign speech (link inside post).
I saw this video on the site linked (it's the full unedited version of the blurb): http://www.citynews.ca/news/features_8084.aspx

Could someone please tell me that this isn't a politician running for President? Someone tell me the rationale here. He makes a jab at Bush. He talks about "Fixing US policies." He talks about Democrats taking the Congress.

Someone tell me I did not just see what I think I saw here.
