Biden: National security key in 2008
RENO, Nev. - The last time Sen. Joe Biden ran for president, he was in a crowded field with Al Gore, Jessie Jackson, Michael Dukakis and others seeking the 1988 Democratic nomination. Ronald Reagan was president, Vice President George H.W. Bush was bidding to succeed him, the Unabomber was waging a war of terror and "The Simpsons" were beginning their rise to TV fame.

Debate on the campaign trail was about Iran-Contra, Reagan tax cuts, gun control and the death penalty.

"Back then, there was still a Cold War going on," Biden, D-Del., said in an interview Tuesday. "The Soviet Union still existed. Gorbachev was a big subject."

"The biggest difference now is it's about national security, national security, national security and then everything else," he told The Associated Press.

1. So what is it that Biden has actually achieve that makes him so
Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 10:43 PM by FrenchieCat
excited about National Security?

Did he foretell 9/11?
Did he push for investigations?
Did he foresee the Pandora's box in Iraq?
Is he sorry for his vote on the IWR?
Is he still selling his idea about us partitioning Iraq?
What is he saying about Iran?

Just asking?

2. Good questions, FrenchieCat
With no 'good' answers.

Biden is a dog that just isn't anywhere near a 'hunt'.

3. We'll have to wait for the Bideneers.......
I'm sure that they will be able to fully "articulate" Biden's many "clean" accomplishments in the area.

4. Biden has no plan for Partition----look here:

http://biden.senate.gov/newsroom/details.cfm?id=264509&&

.......There is no military solution to the sectarian civil war. The only way to break the vicious cycle of violence – and to create the conditions for our forces to responsibly withdraw -- is to give Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds incentives to pursue their interests peacefully. That requires a sustainable political settlement. That’s where my plan comes in..

This plan is not partition – in fact, it may be the only way to prevent violent partition and preserve a unified Iraq. This plan is consistent with Iraq's constitution, which provides for Iraq's 18 provinces to join together in regions, with their own security forces, and control over most day-to-day issues. This plan is the only idea on the table for dealing with the militia, which are likely to retreat to their respective regions. This plan is consistent with a strong central government, with clearly defined responsibilities. Indeed, it provides an agenda for that government, whose mere existence will not end sectarian violence.

The example of Bosnia is illustrative. Ten years ago, Bosnia was being torn apart by ethnic cleansing. The United States stepped in decisively with the Dayton Accords to keep the country whole by, paradoxically, dividing it into ethnic federations. We even allowed Muslims, Croatsand Serbs to retain separate armies. With the help of U.S. troops and others, Bosnians have lived a decade in peace. Now, they are strengthening their central government, and disbanding their separate armies.

The course we're on leads to a terrible civil war and possibly a regional war. This plan is designed to head that off. I believe it is the best way to bring our troops home, protect our fundamental security interests, and preserve Iraq as a unified country. The question I have for those who reject this plan is simple: what is your alternative?

6. Biden has zero chance
If you thought that John Kerry had "senatorial syndrome", listen to Joe Biden speak.

7. What is Biden REALLY saying? Build more and more war toys to kill and blow innocent people up?
Create more spying agencies to spy on those who oppose these profit bearing wars?

Isn't that what Biden really means?

Security is not brought by weaponry, bullying, intimidation and humiliation, it is brought by knowing one another and building relationships. Everyone of us on this planet have things in common that create bonds. Many of those in power don't want us to focus on that but to focus on "enemies". Because as long as we are divided they remain im power. Many of those in power may want to perpetuate war, but the ones who pay for will be the rest of us.
