Kucinich's House of Representatives seat. Question?
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 05:16 AM by southerngirlwriter
Does anyone here live in his district? I was just reading the web site of his opponent, and if the district is filled with people worried about terrorism, this guy's bio is tough to beat.

What's the emotional temperature in his district on the opponent?

On edit: I do not believe DK will get the nomination, but I would very much like to see him keep his House seat. Hence my question.

3. DK has been winning in his district,

described as a basically conservative, Reagan Republican area, for years. He beat a Republican incumbent to get the seat and his % of support has gone up in every subsequent election. This is his fourth term.

He started in politics at 22 or 23, beating a Rep. incumbent for a seat on the Cleveland City Council. At 31, he beat a Rep. incumbent for the mayor's office, but was not re-elected (see below.) When he returned to politics, he defeated a Rep. incumbent for a seat in the Ohio legislature. And then he did the same for his U.S. House seat. He takes care of his contituents' needs and is known for returning to the district almost every weekend (before this presidential race, that is) in order to meet with constituents, attend weddings and funerals of constituents, and so on. I heard this from a Cleveland Plain Dealer reporter on C-SPAN months ago. The reporter seemed not to agree with Kucinich politically but he said he is very accessible -- anyone in the Cleveland area can meet Congressman Kucinich if they want to. He also said that DK is a serious man but also warm, with a sense of humor.

I think he's great, though he must have some flaws. If the American people get to hear him in interviews, I'm convinced they'll think he's great, too, even if they think he's too progressive on some issues (like supporting gay marriage.) I believe he's the man with the right stands on the issues. Polls show that people want universal health care, are concerned about erosion of civil liberties and negative effects of free trade on the workers, and Dennis has proposals to deal with those issues and more. I believe he can win the nomination AND defeat the GOP incumbent in the White House. (I don't worry about the opinion polls because I'm convinced he'll do well where it really counts -- in the primaries and then in the general.)

(Mayor Kucinich was defeated after a utility company and the banks colluded to try to force him to sell the city-owned utility, Muni Light. He had run on a promise to save Muni Light and he stood by it. The banks forced the city into default on some loans and the media smeared Kucinich. Years later, most people seem to acknowledge that he did the right thing -- and thousands of people in Cleveland have enjoyed years of economical service from Muni Light.)

5. The Man and the Myth

That's the Official Story, but according to an archive of articles on Mayor Kucinich in Cleveland Monthly magazine, the Muni Light issue was only one of many issues that sank his administration of Cleveland.

Basically, he's using the Muni Light episode as a smokescreen. His entire administration was inept.

7. Have no fear....
I'm just south of his district and know my way around there.

Dennis' seat is safe.

He'll be filing petitions for re-election there on January 2nd and will remain in the presidential race as well.

Plus, this loser's bio claims that Cleveland is losing jobs, blames it on Kucinich, and then claims he'll work with unions to bring them back. WTF??? Trust me, there is no stronger ally to the unions in Cleveland than Dennis Kucinich.

Every word this guy says will be blown to smithereens on the streets and in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Dennis is safe.
