Kalamzoo school system offers free college
I was watching katie couric and she did a story about how the Kalamazoo school system is offering free college education for all the high school students.

Its a very interesting idea. I think many states and counties would benefit from this and improve its economy.

I was surprised to hear that the donors want to remain anonymous. However, if I was GM, Ford, or Chrysler, that would be a heck of a good PR move.

Also, Derek Jeter is from Kalamazoo, hopefully he donated some money. Maybe Michael Moore did also.

2. this is the 1 year anniversary of the rollout of the Promise
Jeter does some charitable activities in the community but I don't think he's in the Promise group.
Kalamazoo is nearly unique in that we have a fair number of very wealthy individuals in a relatively small community.
The Upjohn family lives here. They founded a pharmaceutical company which is now part of Pfizer. The Stryker family lives here. Their company manufactures hospital beds and medical equipment.
These folks are billionaires. They care about the city. They can afford anything that they can imagine.

The Promise really is more than an education program. It does, of course, assist the students directly but the really important part of the program is the economic development aspect.
Trying to lure people, employers, economic activity to our city.

3. *snort* GM or Ford, bastards wouldn't know how to donate a cockroach to this state
The donors are Kalamazoo inspired, trying to save Kalamazoo from descending into the likes of Flint or Benton Harbor. The US auto companies have done about everything they can to screw this state up after years of padding their own pockets and mass producing products that are so far behind foreign markets its not funny.
