People NOT running for president in 2008
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/20...

(Evan) Bayh is the third Democrat to pass on a presidential bid in recent months. Former Virginia governor Mark Warner announced earlier this fall that he would not run for national office. Sen. Russ Feingold (Wisc.) took his name out of contention shortly after the midterm elections.

On the Republican side, outgoing Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) removed himself from the presidential sweepstakes on Nov. 29.

3. I read on another post today here at DU.........
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 05:19 PM by TheDebbieDee
that George "Macaca" Allen is planning to run for John Warner's Senate seat in 2008.

I'm going to go Google for something more concrete.........

ETA: On second reading I noted that the Presidential race was referred to. Sorry.

4. Also...

...Feingold and Bayh.

Unless Kerry or Gore enters...it really seems to me that the Dem primary will really be between Clinton/Obama/Edwards. Biden or Clark could sneak in, but they're really perceived as being too stiff. Dodd, Vilsack, and Richardson are really no-namers on the last tier that probably will drop out due to the lack of funding.

6. Is Warner retiring?
maybe the other Warner (Mark) should oppose him?

7. Many people wondered if he would challenge Allen this year.
I think polls even showed that the voters would prefer Warner. But now that Webb has taken care of that I think it'd be great to see Warner run for the other seat.

8. Who would want to tbe president of this mess?
I say anyone who wants to take charge of this whole mess has to be certifiably insane! A desire to run should disqualify them right there. I'm not seeing any bright signs on the horizon. I'm already tired of hearing about which hack wants to run. It will be a very long and tedious time between now and then. I'm too old to get excited anymore about any of them, unfortunately. Seems to me the only ones that really want Hilary and Obama to run are the Republicans. They would be so easy to smear...truth is not an issue.

19. Bayh
I really think that Bayh was a dark-horse candidate and possibly very electable. But he did have lack of national name-recognition and lack of fundraising. He may have a better chance in the future, but right now he has zero shot against either Edwards or Hillary.

I originally thought that Hillary would pick Bayh as her VP, but she will probably go with either Clark or Richardson.

Seriously, I'd rather focus on who IS running...and so far, only Biden and Vilsack have announced.
