Will Hillary end up like Kathleen Kennedy?
The scenario: Hillary wins the nomination, but doesn't choose to nominate Obama for VP despite his popularity. By not doing so, she angers the African-American vote in the party and will struggle to turn out the vote, ending up in a loss. Kathleen Kennedy faced such a decision and chose not to name an African-American to her ticket. The black people of Maryland largely stayed home cause they were infuriated. She was soundly defeated.

I just wonder if Hillary would make the same mistake? Of course, this is all a big "if" game cause she may not even win the nomination, however it's a strong possibility. I think black Democrats will be in an uproar, unless Obama turns her down. Bill wouldn't be able to save her, cause I know I'd be one pissed off Democrat.

Mostly in the NOT NOMINATED sense.

3. Different view
I thought she primarily lost because of her association with Glendenning and negative campaigning which boomeranged. At least thats what voters thought.
--
The reaction to her not selecting a black running mate wasn't that significant: "According to a poll conducted by Potomac Inc. of Bethesda, Md., Townsend's support among black voters has fallen from 90 percent to 77 percent." And this was partially because there was a general trend from some blacks to the Steele camp because he is black.

5. 13% drop is quite significant actually
Especially if it's a tight race. No Democrat running for president should ever be below 90% for the black vote. And the fact that Steele was running illustrates even more why she made a poor decision. She should've counteracted that.

6. exactly!
The same people who complain about seeing too much Hillary in the media (and say she's the "media candidate" due to the constant attention paid to her) are the same ones who talk about her 24/7 on this message board.

7. Don't be Negative
Why you talking about KKT? Sure she lost, but that R-wing scumbag who stole it from her just lost too! So the Dems win in the end!!

She would have been a good Gov. Very caring and thoughtful. And maybe she wouldn't have put Wal-Mart on her short list for doing good deeds, like Ehrlich did. The state legislature tried to protect Wal-Mart workers and Ehrlich slapped it down like he would a bad puppy. Gotta keep the money train producing for all those rich store owners. Can't let the working class get a smidgen of money or health care.

Maryland is all DEM now! So I am ready for my life to start getting better come January.

8. Kennedy is interesting
She's done a lot and I wonder if there's stil potential of her regaining ground for a future electoral win that can bring hre back to the national stage. I think she's not too old still and is far more of a progressive than Clinton. If she can possibly win a senate seat or governors'seat in maryland by 2008, she could do some good.

11. I'm not so sure about that... Maryland has a huge black population
So there is a different dynamic playing out in the Maryland/DC/VA area (i.e., there is no excuse for throwing a qualified minority candidate under the bus)... But we understand how the numbers (and racism) game plays out in the United States as a whole. We know the chances of a black person being elected (even as VP) on the Democratic side are slim to none. We still have a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng way to go in this country.

13. Black Maryland
Maryland has two high majority black counties: Prince George's and Baltimore City. The rest of the state is flag-waving redneck R-wing lovers. We need PG and Baltimore City to keep us sane. Every election is the same -- see if PG and BC can balance out the losses in the rest of the state.

Maryland is not stupid. We just knocked down that Steele guy. He thought just because he was black that he would get the black vote. Not so fast. Maybe R-wingers are racist, but liberals vote on ideals and values, not race. We will elect the most caring and compassionate leader, not someone who has the right shade of skin. When will the racism end?
