Rudy WILL win the GOP primaries
Take a look at rw sites, listen to talk radio-they love the guy. They all resent McCain.
And the social issues won't matter. Their religion is republicanism first and fundie 'christianity' second.
If Hannity and Rush issue the marching orders, they'll fall in line.
They're already justifying their acceptance with 'he's pledged to nominaate scalia-esque justices'

so be prepared for this one, all of you 'rudy will never get nominated' people.
no matter what you think of gop primary voters, the rw leaders (via their media lackeys) wants to win and they're already investing heavily in giuliani

2. Rudy is a whore
There is one difference between him and Bush. He may promise to deliver a Scalia like Justice but if I were RWer, I wouldn't take him at his word. He's a new Yorker. He may be a Repug but he's no Southern fundie wannabe. I'd be seriously mistrustful of him if I were fundie.

3. I don't think he'll get it
The social conservatives and evangelicals won't vote for him in the primary. If he does win the nomination, expect an ultra-right wing challenge that would cut into his vote margin in red states. It would just be too much of a risk for them to nominate him.

how the money donated to Rudy's Tower Fund was used....and how is gal pal (now wife) profited. He's a crook.

5. I just hope the media exposes this punk for the fraud that he is....
Edited on Tue Dec-05-06 11:57 PM by marmar
His current elevated status is the result of doing nothing more than being the Mayor of New York on 9/11. He didn't handle that day any different than Dinkins, Koch, Bloomberg or any other NYC mayor would have handled it.
Before that, he was a combative, control-freak mayor who was constantly fighting with people at City Hall and Unions, and considered a borderline kook because of his "nut bunker" emergency room. He wasn't a particularly good manager, and gets way too much credit for the drop in NYC's crime rate (It was falling before Rudy and it's been falling since).
They say Bush got a pass after 9/11, until the Iraq quicksand sucked him in. NOBODY has gotten a bigger 9/11 pass than Rudy Guiliani. It's time that it was revoked - I cannot stand his ass.

8. He's the ex-mayor of a very liberal city
Sorry... when your highest elected office is mayor, your qualifications for president are already thin... when your city is one of the most liberal in the country, your qualifications with rank and file conservatives thins even further.

9. I repug I often talk to thinks that Rudy won't get
the nomination. When I asked him why he didn't really give good reasoning, only that this country isn't going to elect a mayor to the presidency. This guy was a pretty moderate repug as far as repugs go.

11. Do not underestimate the racist appeal...
...of the man who made New York safe for white people again.

Giuliani can ride the corpse of Amidou Diallo all the way to the nomination if he's clever enough.

So he's been divorced three times, etc, etc.

If you're a GOP brainstem voter, his approach to the Constitution and civil right in defense of white resentment and privilege is reason enough to vote for him.

He's leading in Iowa, the state that gave us a Dole-Buchanan tie in '96

13. Au contraire. Unless Rudy gets religion in a hurry
and becomes an antichoice freak overnight, the fundies won't have anything to do with him. Remember, Poppy and Dole were both prochoice until they got the nomination dangled in front of them. It will be the same for Rudy.

I doubt he'll get the nod because he's just barely competent enough to want to try to run things himself. That party would rather have amiable fools surrounded with "advisors" to make sure they don't derail the gravy train the rich and corporate have been rididng.

Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 12:32 AM by nickshepDEM
myself listening to an awful lot of Hannity, Les, Chip Franklin, Bruce Elliot, Ron Smith...

Anyway, I find it quite ironic that Hannity constantly blasts Democrats for their stance on choice, guns, marriage, etc. but he ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS gives Rudy a free pass because he is 'a leader'. McCain is 1000 x's more Conservative than Giuliani, but Hannity wont admit it. Actually, he denies it.

He'll support Rudy in 2008 and his listeners will follow.

15. Please let it be so.
That is said in the spirit of Republicans already choosing Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee.

The thing is that she's already been polarized by as much as she still has to go. On the contrast, only New Yorkers know the real Rudy and there is much more to be revealed to us and the rest of the country.

And for the record, I will not support ANYONE that still maintains their vote for the illegal invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq is or was a good thing. Any bets on when the "whore" will change her tune? When she counters McCain on this point she is branded as a flip-flopper. If she never does, she might as well run on the same platform. She's not my preferred choice no matter much money she has to me so. And frankly, I think that's the problem I have with her record and potential candidacy for POTUS.

17. I'd prefer Giuliani to McCain actually - I think he'd be easier to beat
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 01:23 AM by fujiyama
He's got more easily exploitable skeletons and has a sense of arrogance that after a while will show through. New Yorkers, even after 9/11 were starting to get tired of him and his showboating and basic exploitation of 9/11. I remember hearing about firefighters and cops getting especially tired of it.

They will both face an uphill battle for the nomination. I think the conservatives like Giuliani more though because of his authoritarian attitude and tenancies.

Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 01:34 AM by Historic NY
A. he isn't church going
B. his connections are interesting
C. crime fighter thats a joke
D. adulter
E. married his cousin so it gave him some cover.
F. would have been rode out on a rail had 911 never occurred
G. pro-abortion
H. pro-gay, heck he lived with a bunch when his wife threw him out
I. likes to play dress up
J. has a serious hair problem
K. is only out for himself
L. his former partner & police comm'r is going to jail
M. don't think he can play middle American once his dirt shakes loose
N. He didn't make the streets safe Bill Bratton & his Deputy Jack Maple using CompStat did, they came to NY and made extreme cuts in the crime rate. Rudy because he wasn't always deferred to by Bratton got rid of him and then took the credit. Community policing, commander accountability, from the bottom up was responsible for reducing crime and weekly crime stat meetings to enact cause & effect on the crime.

19. Why does no one mention the cancer thing with him?
I thought prostate cancer was pretty much a permanent condition; they can treat it and slow it down, but it's going to get you eventually. When did he have his treated, 10 years ago? Isn't he on borrowed time now?

I think the conservative media will embrace Rudy, but if the fundies have anyone else as a choice, they won't vote for him. And that's a big chunk of the GOP electorate, especially in the South.

He wasn't even good at that. What statement do you think he was making with that? He also really dropped the ball after the first WTC attack. There is a lot of history people are unaware of.

23. Don't get so happy....Rudy ain't gonna make it! He's almost a joke....
famous only based on the Worst tragedy in our history ocurring....how could that be a good thing? Capitalizing on Terror? It just won't happen. Even when one examines 9/11 and how New York handled it in reality, it ain't pretty.

So just don't get too happy....the Republicans are evil, but they ain't stupid.

24. I've sensed the exact same thing
I post on a couple of balanced political sites and the right wing posters love Rudy. It completely goes against the conventional wisdom on progressive sites, that no way the GOP base will consider Rudy.

Consequently I took 10/1 on Rudy winning the nomination.

They may try to savage him in the primaries, but Rudy has some teflon and I'm convinced much of what is said atop this thread is accurate, that Republicans are desperate to win in 2008 and believe Rudy is their best chance, regardless of some of his issue issues.
