How about a few words from someone who isn't running in '08?
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 10:46 PM by Heaven and Earth
"Your honor, years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it; while there is a criminal element, I am of it; while there is a soul in prison, I am not free." -Eugene V. Debs, after being sentenced to prison for opposing World War I.

If you are so inclined, leave some wisdom from someone who isn't a potential candidate in '08. Just to keep things in perspective.

"It is part of the general pattern of misguided policy that our country is now geared to an arms economy which was bred in an artificually induced psychosis of war hysteria and nurtured upon an incessant propaganda of fear."
—General Douglas MacArthur, Speech, May 15, 1951

2. George McGovern in 1970:
"Every senator in this chamber is partly responsible for sending 50,000 young Americans to an early grave. This chamber reeks of blood...It does not take any courage at all for a congressman, or a senator, or a president to wrap himself in the flag and say we are staying in Vietnam, because it is not our blood that is being shed. But we are responsible for those young men and their lives and their hopes."

3. This is chilling....
Preventive war was an invention of Hitler. Frankly, I would not even listen to anyone seriously that came and talked about such a thing.

~Dwight D. Eisenhower

Because I do it with one small ship, I am called a terrorist. You do it with a whole fleet and are called an emperor.
