“ACLU Nativity Scene” at the Univ. of Texas at Austin

The voices coming from my dashboard told me about this yesterday. I can't find any news link for it yet though.

AUSTIN, TX – The Young Conservatives of Texas - University of Texas Chapter announced today that they will be displaying an “ACLU Nativity Scene” on the West Mall of the University of Texas campus on Monday and Tuesday, December 4th and 5th. The group’s intent is to raise awareness on the extremity of the ACLU, and bring to light its secular-progressive efforts to remove Christmas from the public sphere. The display, the first of its kind in the nation, will feature characters that are quite a bit different than the standard crèche.

“We’ve got Gary and Joseph instead of Mary and Joseph in order to symbolize ACLU support for homosexual marriage, and of course there isn’t a Jesus in the manger,” said Chairman Tony McDonald. “The three Wise Men are Lenin, Marx, and Stalin because the founders of the ACLU were strident supporters of Soviet style Communism. The whole scene is a tongue-in-cheek way of showing the many ways that the ACLU and the far left are out of touch with the values of mainstream America.”

The scene will also display a terrorist shepherd and an angel in the form of Nancy Pelosi.

“The ACLU and other left-wing extremist groups are working diligently to destroy American’s rights to the free expression of religion,” said Executive Director Joseph Wyly. “We’ve already seen in Chicago an attempt to censor the nativity by a city government this week. It’s just more evidence that there is a War on Christmas being waged by the far-left in this country.”

Young Conservatives of Texas, a non-partisan conservative youth organization :shrug: , has been fighting for conservative values for more than a quarter century in the Lone Star State and publishes the most respected ratings of the Texas Legislature. Dear ADF,
I am writing to report an attack on Christmas by students at the University of Texas in Austin. They are planning a nativity scene that includes Gary and Joseph instead of Mary and Joseph. Their wise men are Lenin, Marx and Stalin!

This is unbelievably offensive to Christians and to our most holy of days. I hope the ADF can put an immediate stop to this heresy in Texas.

(which claims to defend America's traditional family values) sent some
Christmas carolers over to sing in front of the ACLU offices in
Washington.

Carrying signs reading "Merry Christmas" and "Please Don't Sue Us!" -
they also seem to have carried with them some rather strange imaginings
about an assault on Christmas. I don't know what the carolers thought might happen.

To tell the truth, the ACLU is not often serenaded by Christmas
carolers. So it was with some excitement that the staff went outside
and joined in the singing. They brought with them cookies and warm drinks
to share. One staff member, who is an ordained Baptist minister, did a
little witnessing about his faith to some astonished proponents of family
values....

I moved away two years ago to attend law school. And, I went to UT back in the late 1980s. But, I'd give anything to be on campus when this display goes up. The YCT are definitely outnumbered on campus. It should be interesting. As in, I wonder how long before the display is trashed. Did these freaks get permission from the administration to do this?

We're going home over the holidays, but sadly, I imagine all that will be left are kindling and memories by the time I make it down from Oregon. Sigh.

During the first years of existence, the Civil Liberties Bureau had a close relationship with the Communist Party, but by 1940 co-founder, Roger Baldwin, became disenchanted with it and removed the communist members from the board of the ACLU.

Probably in part because of the 1939 Hitler-Stalin Pact, but I'm just guessing. That was a wake-up call for a lot of American Communists.

The ACLU continues to have a reputation as being a leftist organization, but in fact, it defends people all along the ideological spectrum from ultra-conservative to ultra-liberal if it determines that their civil liberties are being infringed upon.

One ACLU founder was worse than a Commie, she was an Uppity Woman who fought for working people:

I can see the point of having a zero tolerance on this issue due to past problems, nevertheless the local government here has a nativity display in the main rotunda that would cover most of a city block.

The difference is, is that there's also a display of Native American spirituality artifacts on permanent display, other religious groups get their kick at the cat and I imagine if the Wiccans asked politely they'd get their time as well (over and above Hallowe'en/Samheim).
