No one declared this the Year of the Woman except me.

We Democrats have made history today.

Forget the shit you're hearing in the media. There is, today, only ONE essential fact.

The United States of America, today, November 16, 2006, elected to the third highest office in our national government, a WOMAN.

Today ...... NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

Today is an historic day. Enjoy it.

7. I'm not so sure
anyone needs to be self-congratulatory about this. I mean, if it makes you happy, great. And if you think this is some huge advance for women, great -- but IMO it isn't.

Nancy Pelosi worked damned hard to get to where she already was (Minority Leader) and did a fine job at it, and this is just the next logical step. There was no real way she could have been turned out instead of "promoted" to Speaker with the change in Dem fortunes, frankly.

I doubt I'm being clear. Let me try it this way. This is not, "Oh, wow, what a wonderful advance for women," but instead, "Well, of course. Why not? How could it be otherwise?"

LOL. It's really a much bigger advance for Dems than it is for women, something she herself alluded to.

8. I feel like my life has been largely fulfilled by her appointment....
When I was born and when I was just a child, women were like 2nd class citizens. There were few that worked outside the home. If they did, they did not have the opportunity of men. Even as a child, I noticed these "differences". It puzzled me that someone would think that my Mom was not equal to any man that walked the earth.

The Sixties brought much equality to women and minorities. It was a movement that we can all be very proud of. We were part of changing the world, each in our own small way. And today, Nancy Pelosi is chosen Speaker of the House of the US Congress. We should all be very proud.

She's been working her whole life for today and I know she'll do all of us proud!
