Never heard about this, but, again, shows how lucky we are that DeLay is gone from Congress.
From a story in the WSJ:
When Republicans took over Congress in 1994, most lobbyists were Democrats. Although the power shift would ultimately have resulted in increased numbers of Republican lobbyists, the party leadership set out to accelerate the process. Republicans pressured corporations and lobbying firms to hire Republicans, and Republican lawmakers, such as former Rep. Tom DeLay of Texas, told businesses that he would speak only with Republican lobbyists. Mr. DeLay was instrumental in a strategy called the K Street Project, which pressured corporations to hire hundreds of Republican lobbyists.
and
Democratic lobbyists say they don't plan retribution against the Republicans who pushed them out of jobs. But they predict that some companies that hired many Republicans will now hire Democrats to balance their lobbying teams. "A lot of people got spooked by Tom DeLay and hired a lot of Republicans and those people are going to have the hardest time," says Steve Elmendorf, a Democratic lobbyist who is close to Mrs. Pelosi.
