I remember back when Dennis Kucinich was pro-life....
A devote Catholic all his life, he turned away from his belief that abortion was wrong in order to run in the 2004 Democratic primaries for president and not ruin his cred as a "progressive"...

Back in 1996, we were both on the ticket in a working class neighborhood that was defined more by the dominate parish than by street or secular boundaries...

The Catholic churches were not letting me into their Bingo games to pass out literature, a real source of access to the democratic working class voters in suburban Cleveland….

Time after time, DK vouched for me, even though I was pro-choice, and I was allowed in to meet and great the game players...

I remember this one time when DK wasn't around to defend me...

My opponent, a very vocal "pro-life" republican, had been in office for 16 years and never once did anything to limit the amount of abortions here in the state of Ohio....

Sure, he blustered and bellowed with the best of them, but that "pro-life" posturing never seemed to make it from the campaign literature into the revised code...

So I seized upon that "inconsistency" and asked the pastor of this particular St. "What's her name" what exactly the incumbent had done to stop abortions other than say he was against abortion...

He couldn't answer...

I told him I would do what ever I could to limit the need for abortions but would not compromise my belief that Abortion, in a pluralistic society such as ours, has to be legal and safe for those who do not believe as you do...

He let me pass out my lit...

Message, be reasonable and you may just get a chance to have your voice heard…

1. Good for you
I think we could easily shift the message. We'd like to find lots of ways to reduce unwanted pregnancies and prevent abortions, we just don't want making women and doctors criminals one of the ways we do that.

2. Dennis Kucinich is "pro-life"
Take a look at this stances on other things than abortion and you will find, very definitely, that he supports a "culture of life" for ALL.

PLEASE, stop falling into the "pro-life" trap. The Republicans ARE NOT PRO-LIFE. They may be anti-choice, but THEY ARE NOT PRO-LIFE, so PLEASE stop calling them that.

3. I've known DK for years, personally and professionally....
He used the term Pro-Life himself to describe his position on Abortion over the years...

Please don't continue to chastize people bcause of semantics...

5. It's not a question of semantics -- you are falling into the trap
Stop calling Republicans "pro-life" -- they are not "pro-life".

And if DK has called Republicans "pro-life", he needs to stop it.

You are allowing the Republicans to continue to frame the issue.

PRO-LIFE should be a term associated with the Democrats, not the Republicans.

By continuing to use the term and associate it with the Republicans, you are continuing to spread the myth that Republicans are "pro-life". They aren't.

4. I think you missed the point of WC's post. We longtime DK supporters go back over 30yrs
with him, and understand that every aspect of his position and his evolution very well.

Well put.......

Indeed, we don't need language that is polarizing and inflammatory.

And yours is to the point and reasonable.

7. Good message
Reason is sometimes lacking here, so the message is especially prudent.
