Oh lawdy! The morons, the morons, the morons...
On The Internets, there are few fouler, more fetid cesspools of public discourse than the political forums on http://www.nj.com. It seems that everyone in NJ, who has experienced real and measurable genetic damage from the years of pollution and toxic waste dumping in NJ and that can still form an interest in politics posts on this forum.

Please, take a few minutes. Look, Peruse. Marvel at the wholesale, shameless and craven regurgitation of Limpballian and Hannitarian talking spew, word for word. Be amazed with the complete lack of originality. Stagger under the weight of the realization that these people are allowed to walk our streets unmedicated.

It's like stopping at Jayne Mansfield's final auto accident for a gander or looking at an issue of the original National Enquirer. Really. It's that purient.

2. Quite shameful
I live in NJ and I've been to that forum a few times. Few as in "few too many." Yeah the Kool Aid drinkers spend a lot of time there. You can spot them on the NJ Parkway driving over the speed limit with their W04 sticker still in place and even a yellow ribbon to boot. Ironically I've seen a lot of them at Costco which is ironic because of being such a blue company, these neocons are adding to the profits of a Democratic-friendly company.

3. I've Never Seen That Particular One
but I do occasionally read the New York Giants message board on that site. It is the most shrill and argumentative sports forum I have ever read -- and that's saying a lot. A group actually broke off and formed a Yahoo Groups board to protest the nasty tone of the discussions.

4. I think that they have straight razor fights...
In the restaurant forum there. Ugly place. Just nasty. The forum for my little townlet in Western NJ is vile. Amazing the things that get posted there and by whom.

5. I Don't Know What it is About That Site
I follow two other Giants forums (www.bigblueinteractive.com and www.giants.com) and neither one is nearly as bad.

I suspect this is the result of absolutely no monitoring or oversight. The trolls take over. You simply cannot let a few people spoil the entire mood of the place. DU has done an excellent job in this respect by balancing freedom of discussion with control of abuses.

7. I have a couple of old jokes ...
Why does NJ have so many toxic waste dumps and NY have so many lawyers ? ..... NJ got to choose first ...

Why are people in NY so cranky all the time ? .... Because the light at the end of the tunnel is NJ ...
