OMG! Bush at 42 percent approval, 54 percent disapproval in CNN/Time poll
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 05:34 PM by lancdem
I don't have a direct link; you need to go to http://www.time.com and click on the poll link on the right. My eyes almost fell out of my head when I saw that. I am not making this up!

BTW, the reason Bush leads Kerry 50-48 (which is basically a dead heat) is because that's based on LIKELY voters, which is barely half the overall sample. Likely voters usually tend to be more conservative, but I think that understates the anti-Bush turnout we'll see in November.

Edit: Check Bush's credibility numbers. They're horrible - well under 50 percent. And the GOP thought Clinton was bad? Hahaha

42 percent think he's honest and trustworthy, 53 percent think he's not.

1. YEAH!

This is what I have been hearing. Buddy of mine works for a polling organization and said Bush is in "free fall".

Happy dance, happy dance!

*Edit*
Oh crap - the numbers are reversed. Still, he has been steadily declining since the kay report. Let's hope it continues ..

2. Let's hope this holds (and improves even) by November
Maybe we can get shrub to concede before the election if this keeps up (hehehe)

3. Let's remember...
... that he said he doesn't plan on losing.

I would hope the UN will send in a team to ensure free and fair elections. On this point I am deadly serious.

11. Right on, we need all the help we can get
to insure a fair election in Nov. Bush had his Diebold steal the vote look on his face when he claimed he would not lose.

4. this is getting to be VERY dangerous
look, these guys will do absolutely ANYTHING to stay in power. There is nothing so low that they won't stoop to it if it will keep Shrub in power.

If things keep going like this, or get worse, we'll be seeing at least one terrorist attempted attack; or real attack.

Do not laugh. This is exactly the kind of thing that authoritarian leaders do when their popularity starts to slide so much that their grasp on power is threatened.

Putin's secret services arranged for apartment buildings in Moscow to be blown up prior to the presidential election in which he was elected. The Bushies are of the exact same mindset.

SO we need to be prepared for the worst.

6. my caveat
would be that bush is the master of low expectations.
But it would take an unprecidented amount of guile and
luck for Bush to overcome this.

And that is even if the economy turns around, imagine what another 6 months in the tank would do to his numbers?

The real fight has not even started.

Just look at what they did to McCain and Max Cleland...

This administration is a ruthless and dangerous bunch...

13. I realize that
but I don't think anyone whose rating was in the low 40s less than 9 months before the election won. But I'm sure we'll see an October surprise. I'm fully expecting it.

Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 05:47 PM by RummyTheDummy
Specifically the UBL card which will be played sometime in October. Obviously another 9-11 would be highly beneficial to * as well. Dumping Dick Cheney off the ticket at the last minute for "health reasons" is also something I expect.

23. I believe another 9/11 would backfire
because one of the few things Bush has going for him is his claim that he has made us safer from terrorism. Another atack on our soil would undercut that.

It's amazing to me that 53% of Americans still think the war in Iraq would be worth it even though WMD's are never found.

16. Some of the reasons for this
Our Primaries. Every night people are getting an earful of Democrats blasting Bush. This is a good thing.
(On the other hand, the full counter-punch isn't being delivered by the rethugs yet.)

Also, the WMD thing has finally caught up with them. And none of that news is good either.

The media actually seem to be a bit sick of him. For now, anyways.

It's all good, BUT. The election is months and months away. If this were October I would be ecstatic, but for now it's just something to watch closely. I don't want to take this for something it isn't. We are so desperate to get rid of him that we tend to get overexcited and say, "that's it, he's toast!" It's way too early for that sort of talk.

17. Things are gettting better, but...
According to this poll

66% think Bush is doing a good job with the war on terrorism
53% think the Iraq invasion is worth it, even if no WMD are found
51% said the inability to find WMD in Iraq has not made them less likely to trust in Bush
47% think the Iraq invasion is worth it, even if a democratic government is not formed.

We've got to keep chipping away.

18. Agreed. To early for polls to convince me yet, but...
I think the pollsters may feel somewhat more lax in releasing their real poll data. Remember, 2 - 3 weeks ago we were raging over the wording of polls claiming that "Only 47% are against Bush's" Mexican legal slave status initative, while "fully almost 4 in 10 were for it". I BET 42% IS QUITE ACCURATE 3 MONTHS AGO. Today it's likely to be 32 - 37%.

19. That is good news... But wait until he starts spending his 150M
in ads and media spin... People's opinions are very shallow and changeable... With over 9 months to go, anything can happen...

26. I like Dean, but if Kerry wins a few more -
We need to fund raise, Dean style, If 10 million ABB'ers donate $25. That give $250. million to fight back. And we need to do this soon.

31. I agree we need to fund raise... I am not sure that after donating
several hundred or K dollars to Dean, Dean supporters will be willing to donate to Kerry though... Actually I seriously doubt it... Dean supporters seem to be willing to give their own money to Dean, not to a status quo candidate... Just my impression so far... I myself would not donate to a Kerry campaign...

vote against the Chimp. Plus it also reflects those many non-voters who have registered recently to vote Bush out.
