Diebold worry - Maryland
If you've ever read my posts, you know that I think BBV is a problem, but not the hair afire thing some seem to make it. It is my view that it is but one of many ways that cheating and chicanery gets done.

I am also of a mind that the election has to be close to be stolen.

Lastly, just as background, I am squarely in the camp that is offended when a positive thread with NOTHING to do with BBV issues gets pissed on by the 'not if Diebold counts the votes' crap. And I REMAIN in that camp.

With that background stated, it seems to me that, if their pattern continues, they'll move the scene of the crime to another state. It was Florida in 2000, Ohio in 2004 ..... and this year, if it happens, it could well be Maryland.

We're a 100% Diebold® state, with nary a paper in sight. We had serious problems with these machines in the primaries.

Now for the tin foil headgear ......

Michael Steele has, in fact, run a credible race. He should be within 5 or 6 points of Ben Cardin. But we're hearing now that the race is a pure toss-up.

Robert Ehrlich has, in fact, run a horrible, negative campaign. He should be within 5 or 6 points of Martin O'Malley. But we're hearing now that the race is a pure toss-up.

Ken Mehlmen is a Maryland native and spends a lot of time here. Steele is intimately connected to both Rove and Mehlman. So is Ehrlich, but to a somewhat lesser degree. There has been some push polling here (we recieved the same call on two of our three phone numbers). The special interests have sent a shitload of money to the Republic Party here, and especially to the Steele campaign.

If there is to be chicanery in this election that makes national news, it could well be right here in the Land of Pleasant Living.

Not a predicition, just an early statement.

1. I share your concern
But I hope you are wrong this time.
My husband will be a poll observer tomorrow and he is prepared to raise hell if he sees anything wrong.

2. A friend of mine took the training and then decided not to participate.
The instructor showing them how the diebold machine works accidental plugged the card into the upper slot which is meant for the modem. The machine started subtracting votes and continued no matter what they did, even after remove the card and inserting another card in the correct slot. The called the tech and he said it was because they had plugged it in the wrong slot and there was no fix for that.
If they pull this in only a couple of dem strongholds it will shift the election to the repugs.

scary. The votes in the test bore no resemblance to the votes cast. And there were zero/ziltch clues that anything was wrong. It would be different if we had a paper trail, but most precincts do NOT.
