Over in GD, Quixote1818 has a real shot-in-the-arm of a post for all of us who were feeling kind of down about the Lieberputz-Lamont race. Seems Sam Seder thinks Joementum is in trouble. I can't endorse anything that is said there, but at this point, anything that gives hope sounds good to me!

2. Some campaigns are extremely important to democracy, even if we lose.

Eugene McCarthy's LOSING antiwar campaign in New Hampshire in 1968 brought down a president. Lamont's campaign is exactly of this kind. He was the harbinger of the American peoples' revolt against the Iraq War.

There is a lot at stake, for the war profiteers/Bushites and their liability, in the Lieberman/Lamont race. Lieberman is no doubt the point man to prevent impeachment and to try to stop the bleeding if people like Waxman and Conyers take over committees in the House, and begin investigating the massive crime and fraud connected to the Iraq War. This is not Lamont's fault. He can't help how important Lieberman is to the war profiteers. And he did a very courageous thing--and a very, very important thing--in challenging him. I wonder, too, about CT, if there isn't a large Jewish vote, of people gravely concerned about the U.S. relationship with Israel, which made the colossal error of allying itself with the despised Bush Junta, and ended up with this despised and treacherous Junta as its only friend left in the world. The association of the Bushites with Israel may well damage the American people's long standing support for Israel. Lieberman is also the leader of support for Israel in the Democratic Party. So, what may be happening is that voters who would otherwise vote progressively, and may even oppose the Iraq War and many Bush policies, are clinging to Lieberman as defender of Israel's interests in what may be a difficult period for that country. (The Bushites have blown things very badly in the Middle East, and Israel may take the brunt of that disaster during a time when Americans desire to, and must, cut back military spending, and will be loathe to engage in any new hostilities anywhere.)

Any CT-ers here who could confirm this guess re: Lieberman's support?

9. There's a kernel of truth in your premise, but it's not the

whole story. I live in Fairfield Cty - bedroom community to NYC - lots of us commute into the city to work. We do have a very large Jewish population, and they are very supportive of Joe, but I think the biggest factor is the extreme weakness of the Repub party here. Other than Jodi Rell, our very popular Gov, I can't think of any other statewide office held by a GOPer (could be wrong!). We got burned big-time by corrupt (oh, the shock and horror!) gov John Rowland and GOPers have not been very well received around here lately. They were not able to come up with a viable candidate and ran Alan Schlesinger, a veritable unknown former mayor of the small city of Derby. NOBODY got behind him.

Now here's the nugget - I spent all day yesterday canvassing and went to a home with a "Joe" sign out front. The residents were on my list as registered Dems. When I rang the bell and spoke to the lady of the house, she said to me "Well, we're registered as Democrats, but we've voted straight Republican for years." Hmmmm, votes GOP, Lieberman sign in yard. They've clearly adopted Joe as a Repub already.

Count me as one of those who need hope. To me, this race is even more important if we fail to take the Senate, because this race will determine if bush has "cover" for an attack on Iran. Really. Lamont is the key to putting down the junta. Also, and just as important, getting rid of Lieberman equals holding on to Soc. Security.

8. Kudos to the CT Dems who nominated Lamont.

Regardless of whether Lamont wins, and I certainly hope he does, the CT Dems showed us that a grassroots revolt against a powerful, establishment candidate can work. If Joe had any sense of decency, he would have bowed out, listened to the will of the party, and put the interests of the American people above the interests of Israel (as a wise poster suggested above). Evidently, that was too much to ask of Joe.

Nevertheless, the CT Dems have given the progressive wing of the party the real power to threaten appeasement conservatives within our ranks. When we say, "Vote like a Democrat or we'll replace you," these DINOs will now have to listen because our threats will be credible. Thank you, CT Dems and Ned Lamont. Win or lose, you have made a real difference.

10. Lieberman's been acting like he's in trouble.

I think his internal numbers must be bad, because he seems scared. And I can tell you that there are still a lot of CT voters who have yet to make up their minds.

I am cautiously optimistic of a Ned victory on Tuesday. And I will be at the polls all day, from 7am to 8pm, to do my part.

11. Cheney may end up helping Lamont.

This came up on Tweety's show tonight. They showed a clip of Cheney saying that a victory for Lieberman will be a signal to the American people that the course of action that the Republicans have taken in Iraq is the correct one, ie, (stay the course). Lamont is going to use the Cheney tape in a last minute ad and Lieberman is trying frantically to distance himself.

It's late in the game, but who knows?

most important one being run on Tuesday...by far, and absolute...for many, many reasons...Joe must go...Come on Connecticut...we're rooting for you to do the right thing...you chose Lamont as your DEMOCRATIC candidate...now follow through and put him in office...we are rooting for you and for Ned all across this country..go Connecticut...go Ned...!!
