Wow - if it's this easy to knock DUers off their game, we may be in trouble
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 04:33 PM by beaconess
Judging by some of the posts here, some DUers are falling apart over Kerry's slip.

Get a grip, people! This is a campaign. Stuff happens! The other side tries to exploit it. It only works if we allow it to.

The last thing we need to do is fall right into their trap, ganging up on each other whupping ourselves into a frenzy of self-loathing, fingerpointing, and handwringing.

If you can't handle this little blip, some of you might want to take a long nap until November 8th. You ain't seen nothing yet and if this is how you react to the rough and tumble, the next 6 days are going to be sheer hell.

This story will go away as fast as it popped up - unless WE keep it alive by turning on our own and behaving as if our prospect for victory is so delicately fragile that it can be shredded by one man's slip of the lip.

Let's CALM DOWN and GET BACK TO WORK!

1. I think we're suffering from post traumatic election theft stress?
We haven't had a "win" in far too long, and I think people are genuinely afraid something/someone is going to "mess this up."

The media spin for ratings in the final week is also adding to the collective "trauma."

2. Well said.
I do wish that Kerry and other Dems will take the opportunity to list all of the things that Bush should apologize for in his handling of the war.

Keep the focus on the war. And demand an apology from Bush.

I don't think it's a really big issue and was overblown way out of proportion, especially here.

4. The Concern Trolls are always ready to pounce.
Its the same folks every time. They pronounced Webb dead last week over that pack of lies and they are having spasms of anguish over the latest pack of republican lies. The worst part of this is that probably half of our concern trolls do not know that this is what they are. The conscious agents of the darkside are a problem, but the naive useful fools are a breed apart.

Here is a clue, oh clueless ones: it is election season, even their lies are lies.

9. oh yeah, the "consarned" ones
there are few words that I'd like to eliminate from the English language, and none of them foul, but "concerned" used to describe somebody's state of mind regarding political issues is one of them.

19. please don't take offense -
sometimes we queue off key words, and there really are trolls some days; I'm guessing you haven't been here long enough to qualify as a republican or a troll, or at least I haven't seen it yet.

Hey, this sandbox can get rough some days, kind of like rush hour traffic. Hang in there if you're not a republican or a troll.

:hi:

20. If you are thoughtlessly buying into the bullshit
then you are what we have come to call here a Concern Troll. That doesn't mean that you are a conscious agent of the darkside, a republican causing trouble. But if you are running around all concerned and making noise on the internets about what the Bullshit Media System is telling you that Kerry said, without pausing for a moment to think about what is more likely: a) you are being lied to, or b) Sen. Kerry said that the troops are stupid for being in Iraq, then you are a classic Concern Troll. Think! Use that noggin! They Are Desperate Liars!

6. I'll agree - I'll help pass out blankets
If you're going to have an opinion on politics, try to base it on reality.

A politician, especially a consummate politician like Kerry (take that however you will) would never in a thousand years say something like that intentionally. Ever.

Water does not run uphill either, and crap doesn't fall up or some of these folks would be in trouble every time they sat down to lose a load.

2,800 dead. 44,000 injured. All because bush intentionally lied.

And Senator Kerry owes someone an apology??

Yeah, lets make who owes who an apology a front page story NOW.

No trouble!!

29. Sage consel there, Boss
I'd love for this story to get some legs. Make the debate about Iraq and see who wins.

Race baiting in Tennessee didn't work. Ford's back up again.

Stem cells didn't work in Missouri. McCaskill's back up again.

(Gay) porn novels didn't work in Virginia. Webb's pretty clearly in the lead, according to four polls now.

So they're back to grasping straws.

Kick the story to the top and keep it there. MAKE IRAQ THE DEBATE.

10. I thought it served as a great opportunity...which Kerry handled
exceptionally well.

We need to be constantly on the attack, and Kerry opened the door. Keep tearing these bastards down, put them on the defensive, and throw everything at them. There are a few days left and not one of them should pass with out ten new, viral talking points dropped into the mix.

23. hear, hear!
How long ago was it that some of the same folks were squawking that Kerry wasn't saying enough, he wasn't tough enough, blah blah blah!

It's also amusing to see people who have never had to speak on their feet or endure the glare of the spotlight and probably couldn't string three coherent sentences together if called upon to do so, from behind the safety of their computer internet firewall become sanctimonious public speaking and deportment experts, dictating to those who ARE in the ring fighting for us exactly what they SHOULD have said.

It's tempting to say, "Since you are such an expert and know so well what these people should be saying and doing and are so all-fired certain that you have all the answers, why don't YOU get your butt out there on the line and do the job you demand that they do?"

Amazing.

There are internet activists and real world activists. Many DUers are internet activists only so they can't do much harm.

Thankfully.

30. Really...
... if this little shit mistake of making an ambiguous comment can knock Dems out of the running we were never in it.

There is a lot of free-floating anxiety about next week. I get that, but please let's not compare an offhand comment with the prosecution of a pointless war, the shredding of the Constitution, the installation of a government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich and enough scandals to make 1,000 Whitewaters.

Take a deep breath.

31. When I saw the video, I thought Kerry's remark was offensive...
but now that I know the joke was botched, I understand Kerry's intent. Now Bush should explain why his 'Searching the Oval Office for WMD' joke wasn't intended to offend the victims of his botched Iraq policy.

33. it's just bizarre that anyone would think he would attack the troops!
what weird ass reality do they live in? How many veterans go around every day attacking the troops? How many senators eat babies?

Some days when you get a glimpse of HOW they think it is dismaying that they even are allowed to drive, in traffic, with the rest of us.

They are doing a happy dance that Kerry fluffed a line and kkkkarl thinks he's back in business. I know the general public don't read DU and aren't influenced by our give and take, but they do watch tv. I think we could expend our energies better by bombarding them with insistence of fair play. Even if it doesn't make a dent, it is at least something positive we can do with our time, and they do listen to angry viewer gripes.
