Chris Matthews: anti-Ford ad is "Ken Mehlman cesspool"
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 04:12 PM by beaconess
Harold Ford is on Hardball now - and Chris Matthews has all day been blasting the RNC's anti-Ford ad as racist.

Ford got in a good line - "If my opponent can't stand up to the RNC and get them to pull this ad, how is he going to stand up for Americans in the Senate."

Good for Chris.

1. Good for Tweety
Nothing like race baiting to redeem the Southern states.

Did anyone else see the "Olberman '08" sign in the background?

2. Harold Ford did a GREAT job during that segment
And good for Tweety -- "Let's get out of the Ken Mehlman cesspoll for a minute here ... "

Didn't he also say something about Mehlman "not being well" about running the ad??? I loved Ford's comment about Corker's inability to pull down the ad showing how ineffectual he'd be with the Rethug bosses in D.C.!!!

5. Matthews is all over Tony Snow about this -
Clearly can't believe that Snow doesn't see anything racist about it.

Matthews is really all over this one.

6. The rnc was responsible for
an anti-Michael Arcuri ad in New York that the local stations wouldn't play.

"Steamy Attack Ad Meets Chilly Reception"

"CBS/AP) The National Republican Congressional Committee is being criticized by one of their own candidates for a sensational attack ad it produced for a congressional race in New York State.

Democratic congressional candidate Michael Arcuri is accused in the ad of billing taxpayers for a call to a phone sex line placed while he was in a hotel. The ad shows Arcuri leering at the silhouette of a dancing woman who says, "Hi, sexy. You've reached the live, one-on-one fantasy line."

But Arcuri's campaign released records showing the call made two years ago from his New York City hotel room to 800-457-8462 — a sex line — was followed the next minute by a call to 518-457-8462, the state Department of Criminal Justice Services.

Arcuri, the district attorney in Oneida County, said the ad was "clearly libelous" and threatened to file a lawsuit. Even his GOP opponent, state Sen. Ray Meier, described it as "way over the line."
At least seven television stations in Syracuse, Utica and Binghamton refused to run the ad, Arcuri said."

7. Mathews is almost there
Mathews has come closer than any of the other analysts today calling it incendiary and Mehlman's cesspool but (unless I missed it) even he hasn't come right out and used the word everyone understands--RACIST. As I write this Tony Snow is denying the ad's racist content.

Leave us face it this is racism as blatantly stated as anything ever said by Dixiecrats in the 1940s and '50s. It basically appeals back to the fascist bogey of the mongrelization of the races which hopefully is part of our past not our present and future.

Are the Republicans so morally bereft that major party figures can continue defend racism and the enabling child predators as being no big deal.

9. I just hate the fact...
that they keep running the ad for free, over and over again. This is like the swift boat ad in 2004. The cable news channels kept running it then the commentators would say how awful it was and that it was full of lies. But that still didn't change the fact that they reran it over and over, for free.

I've seen this anti-Ford ad 3 times today and I live in Michigan.
