Seriously, could Edwards stump speech be any better??
I look at a lot of the candidates (Who I respect) and I hear them speaking, I tend to really focus of speaking style. And while they're all good speakers, I do tend to find faults with a lot of the other people. Standard stuff, Dean too loud... Kerry too glum... etc. etc.

Well, I just got done watching Edwards speech and I honestly can't find a fault. This guys one of the purest politicians I've ever seen. You can see why he was so successful in a courtroom.

1. Yes, I'm impressed ... but ...
...is it possible that he's too smooth?

I know that that sounds stupid, but consider an electorate that cast over 49 million votes for a illiterate buffoon who can barely speak his native tongue.

3. Hmmm, they voted Clinton in twice
He's pretty damn smooth. Think of the comparison with Bush and Edwards on a stage together.

8. Good point.
If "Slick Willie" Clinton could convince the electorate to vote for him, then I guess "Slick Johnnie" Edwards could too. The diehard Dems, myself included, will vote for whomever the nominee happens to be (I'd vote for a Shetland Sheepdog before I'd vote for Bush). It's the so-called swing voters about which we have to be concerned.

I find Edwards impressive not in spite of his slick delivery, but in part because of it and definitely because of his message.

I'd love to see him on stage either in the position of tearing Bush apart or on stage tearing Cheney apart.

4. He's not too smooth
We're not going to beat Bush at his game. No one is as poorly spoken and ill qualified to hold the office as him. So, don't worry about that.

Edwards was awesome. Kerry needs to stop reading his speeches.

As others have said, he is the southern Kennedy or Clinton without the baggage.

6. He's a wonderful speaker
& I'm not criticizing, just asking.

How can he run for Prez & not talk about national security?

We have 130,000 troops in Iraq, getting shot at every day, not to mention Afghanistan.

I'm not saying this will be more important than the economy as an issue, but how can we ignore it? Especially when you know the Repukes will use this as #1 issue.

12. He can talk about National Security...
when he has to. His wife Elizabeth grew up a Navy brat. We in the South do know our Military.

9. It could be better if there were a second one.
His delivery is spot on, but it gets tiresome to hear the same bits about being the son of a mill worker and all (although, I have to say, the more he repeats this, the more he seems familiar to the electorate, the more they feel they know him). He needs to have two or three in rotation.

13. You've got a point.
I am sick and tired of hearing that there are two Americas...well, DUH. So what's he gonna DO about it? Repeal NAFTA, withdraw from the WTO,public works program to get people back to work, well, WHAT??

17. BINGO!
I was watching the Tuesday results on C-SPAN and someone called in who hit it right on the nose...

"I hope Edwards, or someone from his campaign, is watching right now. His speech is great, but he needs to vary it up sometimes."

Or something to that effect.

Couldn't agree with the caller (or you) more on this one.

11. It's pretty damn good!
I think he is a star, for sure.

I really like his wife too. I liked the way she put a kiss on her hand and gave it to him. It was sweet, yet genuine.

14. Ahhh a kiss on her hand...
because he is genuine. Chris Matthews said Elizabeth would make a 'dream boat' of a first lady.

16. She once said
that, after what they went through with their son's death, "I never want him to have another unhappy moment as long as he lives. And if there's anything that he wants, I want it for him."

19. Only One Problem ...
While he certainly outlines the problems he wishes to fix with great clarity (especially the ones concerning the economy), he really doesn't outline his plans to fix said problems very well.

Though I suppose this could be said of any candidate, since they don't want to tie themselves down to one policy on a certain issue just yet.

20. Actually, look on his website
He has a 50 page booklet on his policy proposals. The Nation and the Washington Post both said he had the clearest plans. They hand it out at all of his events.

21. Yes, I know
I realize that the candidates websites all have very detailed proposals (well, except maybe Sharpton's) -- I've read them all.

My point was that his speech doesn't really bring up these policy ideas (which I feel, by the way, are wonderful).

22. Stump speeches rarely contain this kind of detail
They aren't policy addresses - they're designed to rev up the faithful and peak the interest of potential supporters.
