In WWII, the military pretty much did its own support work -- cooking, building support facilities, etc.
The U.S. hired private companies such as Halliburton to perform major portions of its military support work in Viet Nam such as building air strips, etc. I think that was the first time that we had outsourced so much of that kind of work in a battle zone. And what were the results?
In Iraq, we have privatized virtually all of the military support from what I understand. And look at the results again.
Let's put the military back under the control of the government and get the private companies out of our nation's military business. They can build equipment, but the infrastructure and action in a war zone should be under the unified command of the U.S. Dept. of Defense, and the work should be done by soldiers not by civilian mercenaries. Only the military has the kind of organization and discipline that is needed for war.
