GOP terrorism ad sparks Democratic furor
(CNN) -- Republicans took a page from President Johnson's Cold War-era presidential campaign with an advertisement set to air this weekend called "The Stakes," which prominently features al Qaeda leaders threatening to kill Americans.

<snip>

The advertisement, which is available on the Republican National Committee Web site, is scheduled to run on national news networks Sunday. Republicans are emphasizing national security and terrorism issues in their bid to maintain control of Congress with about two weeks before the November midterms.

The ad features al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, speaking, but the only sound is a ticking clock in the background. The terror leaders' quotes are posted on the screen and key phrases in the quotes stand alone as the rest of the quote fades out.

In one instance, bin Laden is quoted as saying, "With God's permission we call on everyone who believes in God ... to comply with His will to kill the Americans." As the text of the quote fades out, "kill the Americans" remains on the screen.

As usual, the Republicans cannot come up with any valid reasons why people should vote for them, so they must resort to scare tactics. :eyes:

1. They actually quote him as saying "God"?
Seriously, how stupid is that? Our god is named "God." Their god is named "Allah."

Or maybe not, because what do I know about any kind of god, anyhow.

2. I don't know if they translated it for US audiences or what
I've actually seen some Muslims use "God" so he may have actually said God though. It's all the same being anyway, no matter what they call him.

4. Maybe they have him on ice ... "October Surprise?"
 Otherwise, why remind people that Osama's been on the loose for five years?

5. The difference between Johnson and this ad being
that Johnson's opponent, Goldawater, was openly advocating the use of nuclear weapons during Cold War conflicts. As a result, the "daisy" ad, which only aired once IIRC, made some sense.

Today, the only people saying that Democrats are in league with the terrorists are talk-radio blowhards. The comparison to the "daisy" ad is tenuous at best.

6. Counter it with an attack ad of their own
Featuring an audio clip of Bush's own words:

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care.
It's not that important. It's not our priority." - G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

Simply use their own words against them.
The reality is, terrorism has gotten worse under GOP leadership,
and Bush's own words proves it.

Simple and effective. The GOP would be destroyed.

If the Dems were smart, that's what they would do.

But I ain't holding my breath.

8. That would be a good idea
Unfortunately I don't know of anyone with both the nerve and the money to do it.

9. The Dems certainly have the money
The latest reports show the Dems are now competitive with REpubs when it comes to campaign financing.

The Dems just lack the nerve. 'Spineless' is a term often associate with them.

Just think if a Democratic president or some prominent Democrat had said the same words instead of Bush, about not caring about finding bin Laden, the Repubs would not think twice of using it against them. And the MSM would not hesitate to make an issue out of it. It would be all over the networks 24/7.

You would never hear the end of it!

Spineless, spineless democrats.

And we wonder why they continue to lose every election.

11. Is that Laura and Barney?
Bob Woodward quoted President Bush as saying that he will not leave Iraq, even if the only ones still supporting him are his wife, Laura, and his dog Barney. ...

12. I immediately wonder why those men are alive and well and making GOP Ads
 Really makes me feel protected knowing those guys are out there and the GOP doesn't know how to, or just won't get them...
