i read the post on wes clark in 08
and was very impress.having spent 27 years in the usn and 3 tours in nam i`m interested in possible other candidates as well as v.p. candidates.i believe in the last 2 presidential elections i think the v.p. candidates do not come through as anticipated.i`m also interested in women candidates,it has been too long to deny the opposite sex the right to lead this country.can anyone out there give me some ideas and possibly names of presidential candidates and v.p.`s that can win.my liking of wes clark is exactly what the writer stated, who else could protect us better then a retired 4 star general.especially one who knows the horrors of war,and that it is better to fight the wars we have to,rather then fighting the ones we want to.thank you, peace.

1. Welcome to DU, kentjay!
Different people here favor different candidates for the 2008 race.

Since we don't even really know who's running yet and the primaries are still quite a way off in the future, I'm just sort of sitting back here watching and waiting for the field to become clearer.

I'm sure other DUers will be happy to tout their favorites to you; the only problem with that is we don't yet know who really is or isn't going to be running.

I hope you enjoy becoming part of the DU community! I'd long since have gone insane without it.

:hi:

:hi:

Thank you for your service! :patriot:

Considering how prescient Wes Clark has been about all that has come about, his wisdom would well serve this country....in particular, in these times.

He impresses me as an American who would lead us from the front....knows exactly where the PNAC bodies are located, and could reverse this hell of a path we are currently on.

Bush said it, didn't he? he's leaving Iraq and most likely all of our other brewing problem (many of his making) to the next President. It would be a wise thing for Democrats to do; to actually nominate someone who could get the job done.

But for now, Clark's Lasebeam focus is on 2006 so that we can win back a house......mostly in order to avert a possible strike on Iran and all of the other nightmares that Bush has in store for us. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/9/26/125738/074

Wes Clark's singleness of purpose till November has him concentrating on what we need; not what he needs to increase his name recognition. Instead of running up to the press cameras where high visibility races are happening (like in Virginia and Connecticut--although his letter asking Lieberman to get out of the race was superb.....as was his personal encouragement of Webb to run in the Virginia Senate race/Clark endorsed Webb during the primaries and got his Clarkies out into the streets for Webb--not to mention that great commercial by VoteVet.org against Allen and Santorum; VoteVet.org, a group in which Clark is involved prominently). We are blessed that it isn't Wes' aim to appear in high visibility venues in order to raise his own personal profile.

But Clark is out there, as a frontline soldier, fighting the small battles so that we Dems can win the war; hence he was in KY yesterday,(the GOP were forced to send MCain on his tail....guess that he is what they consider his GOP equal! http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060926/NEWS0106/609260391 ), is in Texas today; and will be in Arizona shortly standing next to those candidates that need a boost in order to win their seats to congress.

Because, in the end, the brutal truth is that without regaining power in one of our houses, we won't be able to stop Bush for another 2 years. That would be a tragic event......simply tragic! We can't let that happen!

6. Since you asked...
I think Wes Clark is the perfect candidate for us and has to be at the top of the ticket for the following reasons.

He is not vulnerable to, nor will he take, any "swift-boating" crap like Kerry did.
He is extremely well educated and articulate and doesn't sound too much like it, definitely a plus in this anti-intellectual environment.
He has been there and has accomplished each mission he has been given. Nothing succeeds like success.
He has an unmatched understanding of, and experience in, foreign affairs and the diplomatic skills to achieve what needs to be achieved.
He has a sterling reputation among the leaders of our allies, as well as, our most likely opponents.
He "looks Presidential", whatever that means.
He is a southerner.

His principle weakness is, IMO, no political experience (and when I say weakness, I mean that he has not held elected office) and (probably) a lack of understanding how things are made to happen in DC. Being the President, being right, and having the best ideas mean nothing in that cesspool, which leads me to his running-mate.

He or she should compliment his vulnerabilities, so we need a politician. Personally I think Dennis Kucinich or Russ Feingold would fit the bill perfectly with their progressive ideals, plans, and political know-how because, sure as shit, if elected he will have to fight the Democratic Party rulers just as hard as he will have to fight the Re:puke:s, maybe even harder. They are a nasty lot and, as we have seen repeatedly in the past, do not have the best interests of the country at heart.

So the idea is that, since the President is the only one with the authority to direct foreign policy, he has to be the top of the ticket. In the past Wes Clark has always built coalitions and I see no reason that his Vice President can't be a real partner in the Herculean task that awaits the next President. So the Veep gets to be the domestic policy czar while he is occupied with foreign policy.

What do you think?:kick:

9. Well, I agree but don't discount the times he has
tstified before the House and Senate (as when he strongly warned against attacking Iraq), and is a partner in a firm that includes addressing domestic security issues and environmental issues, etc. That takes a lot of interaction with Congress and knowing how things work in DC. His biggest asset is given the opportunity to greatly benefit financially from his experience and connections, he told those whose first interst was not the well being and safety of the people of his beloved country to fuck off. I love the guy, especially his non-stop campaigning for some great Democrats - especially vets - who should get elected in 06.

Love your post!

7. Welcome to DU, Kentjay.
Glad to see a vet around. Clark's my #1 pick, too, but we've got a pretty deep bench for 2008. There's a number of good candidates, many of whom were never married to former presidents.
