Your solutions to Iraq
Just found a wonderfull and straigtforward suggestion for how to handle Iraq:

You want solutions? Here's mine. Elect Democrats to run this country properly. Let the Generals run the war, and get us outta there as soon as they can. Create a commission to give the criminals that got us into this a quick, fair trail, and then hang them from the nearest flagpole.

2. a united EU?
Yet another precondition before we change course? We need to get out. End of story. We cannot 'win' we can't even define what victory might be. We cannot set preconditions. The muslim nations in the region will sort out the mess we made. What we should be doing is negotiating with the Iranians, the Turks, the Jordanians, the Syrians, and our pals in the gulf over how we get out and what they do with the mess we are going to leave behind.

3. Works for me.
Except for the hanging part.

I'd rather see them in solitary for life, basic conditions with no special perks. Give them plenty of time to reflect on and repent of their crimes.

6. Yeah - I was kinda assuming that we could take the hanging part less
seriously than the rest. Even jail I feel is not realistic for now. But it just might become realistic in some years and with the right circumstances Cheeny could have part of his old age behind bars. What a nice thought. :)

4. Who listened to all of us who protested BEFORE the war started?

If anyone wanted to hear what I had to say, they should have listened THEN.
I am not a janitor to clean up other people's messes.

I knew better. Millions did.

I suppose the Democratic Party will end up having to clean up after the Bush Administration. Hell, I wouldn't take that job if everyone in Washington D.C. turned out in togas and elected me God.

There will be some brave men and women (my vote so far is for Wesley Clark) who WILL be willing to take on the task. God help them.

5. Maybe we should consider installing...
Some sort of Dictator that of the minority sect, has an iron fist, is heavily secular and has a history of cooperation with the CIA and Oil Companies.

That way, we are assured of minority protection so the country/oil field stays intact, he isn't overly religious so we would have no concern of a Taliban style government, we know whose side he is on because he has been on the CIA payroll before.

Hmmmmm.

Where could we find someone like that? Any ideas?

7. I want to win the Congress in November...
Impeach several members of the Supreme Court
Arrest GOP enablers of BushCo
Impeach and arrest Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and their toadies, dress them in orange jumpsuits and shackles, drive them into the heart of Baghdad and push them out into the street. They will be exchanged for all US soldiers who will be taken out of Iraq immediately. Whoever is in charge that day can deal with Bush and his gang of thugs and cutthroats.

Above list not necessarily in order.

10. I don't think there is one.

Iraq isn't going to be a functioning state any time in the forseeable future. All that's keeping it from flying apart is the presence of American troops. If they withdraw, then it will explode, if they stay then the pressure will keep increasing until they leave, and then explode. I think that withdrawing the international presence is probably the least worst option, but if anyone has a better idea I'd love to hear it.

I *do* think that starting your proposals with "Elect Democrats to run this country properly" is lending uneccesary weight to the Republican accusation that the Democrats have no plan - the important thing is what's done, not who does it. Electing Democrats won't do any good at all in itself; the reason to do it is because - hopefully - they will do sensible things, but that's not ipse facto true; those things need to be outlined, and we need to make it clear that we know that.

11. Oh, Democrats have plans alright......
But the real problem is not lack of plans, but rather the media's take.... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2845038
