Clark Supporters: Check in Here!
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 10:04 PM by Jack_Dawson
...and "Clarkize" this poll.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4160281/

Everyone who can, please join me in calling TN this weekend. If The General won by 1,200 votes in Oklahoma, it proves that informing the electorate matters - a lot. I know it's hard to start...but after awhile you get into a rhythm, and it feels great pushing the fence-sitters (and they are everywhere) into the Clark camp.

http://www.clark04.com/eblocks/

Who is ready to give new meaning to "free night and weekend" minutes? Good luck everyone!

Has it been that bad?
I have not been participating in a lot of the Clark threads because they tend to be HUGE, and my wheezy old modem just can't handle it. Although many points of view are represented at DU, I have found that there are many many Clark supporters here.

Just keep spreading the word; don't lose heart.

If you think a 4-Star would turn tail at the first sign of adversity, you're sorely mistaken. Let's embrace those ideals.

But I have seen several post today about the Clark not doing so good & who should we support. Support Clark! Until such time He decides he is not running.

I will do every thing in my power to Get Clark elected, but I may do it someplace else where I feel support.

by Kerry, Dean and Edwards supporters posing as Clark supporters angling for your vote.

Don't be discouraged by "Clark supporters" who were never really in the Clark camp to begin with.

I'm hardcore - Clark til the End. And I know I have a lot of company...

48. I have been calling since NH.
The first thing I say is: Hi I am a volunteer calling from Indiana on behalf of General Wesley Clark for President. Are you going to be voting Tuesday in the Primary? They usually say: Yes or No. Then I go from there. Telling them where you are calling from really makes it personal. I also give them my name. Sometimes I include that I am from the original draft clark movement. This sparks interest. Many people still do not know that he was asked to run. If they say they support someone else, I usually ask them to consider Clark and give them some points about his issues or I tell them to go to Clark04.com. People are generally friendly and enjoy being called by a PERSON as opposed to a robocaller. IF they say they are already voting for Clark, I thank them and ask them to tell all of their friends!

The main advice I would give is just be yourself. You know why you support Clark! After the first call or two it gets a lot easier. I know how you feel. I have been working to get him on the ballot in my state and running into republicans has sometimes made me cry. I just tell myself that running into them happened for a reason: proof that I need to keep getting the word out.

53. Ditch the Script - Here's what you say:
"Hi, is _______ there?

This is ______

Hi Mr./Ms._______ my name is _____ (first name only) and I'm a volunteer with the Clark campaign, how are you doing?"

Fine, OK, Uhhh,

"Will you be voting on Tuesday?"

We're aimin' to...just not sure yet.

"I understand, there are a lot of choices...are you a fan of President Bush?"

Hayle no

"Well neither am I Sir/Ma'am, that's why I'm supporting General Clark...are you familiar with The General?"

Well...we've been seein' his messages on the TV...we're keepin' an open mind...

"Well Mr./Ms. ________, if you want Bush OUT of the White House, General Clark is your best bet. Believe me, a 4-Star General is the LAST person George Bush wants to face."

(you can wing it from here)

Trust me YOU CAN DO IT.

50. This is what you do
First, you use your Ignore button judiciously, starting with the most rabid Edwards supporters.

Second, you do the same for the extremists on the left.

Third, you X-out any thread that has the words "Clark" and "VP" in the title.

I guarantee half your troubles will be solved right there and then. After that, put those false friend "Clark supporters" on Ignore. That will take care of the rest of it. Why pay attention to this nonsense?

Then we get back to having fun while we do our work for the General.

Try it.

27. Anybody here from Tennessee?
How much do they love George Jones in Tennessee? A lot, right? :)

For Immediate Release
Date: February 6, 2004

Country Music Legend George Jones Endorses Wes Clark
Little Rock - Country music legend George Jones announced his support for Wes Clark's presidential campaign today. He will record a radio ad that will begin airing in Tennessee this weekend.

"I have never done anything like this before, but I feel strongly about the direction this country is headed," said George Jones. "As a former Marine, I know that Wes Clark is the candidate that is best prepared to protect our country. Wes Clark is a plain talking leader, who comes from humble roots and shares the same values that we share here in Tennessee and across the South. Wes Clark will never forget where he's from, or who he's for."

"George Jones is a true American cultural icon and his life's work is part of the fabric of Tennessee and of this country," said Clark. "It is an honor to have George Jones take such a public role in supporting my campaign. He knows that I will stand up for the same folks that have been listening to his music for years."

Jones has recorded numerous legendary songs throughout his career and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Jones is a life-long Tennessean.

47. I don't care what anyone says, General Clark is the most intelligent,
most trustworthy candidate in the race. I would, and in a way am, entrusting him with the futures of my children and my grandchildren. I have always felt that Clark could be the salvation of our country. A strong, fearless man of integrity and dignity. Truly, I love the man.

65. Checking in from WA, ready to caucus tomorrow!
I have relatives in Virginia, sadly all Republicans. But I also have friends, who are Dems. I'll be calling them, and then other Virginians in the next few days. I had relatives in Tennessee, too, although most of them have either died or moved to South Carolina. So I'll be calling Tennessee, too.

Go Wes!

caucus for Clark tomorrow. And I'll be the Clark Captain
at my caucus site tomorrow, so it'll be hectic.
But I'll try.
Tennessee is damn important.

Good luck everyone.

109. Here is my report about Gen. Clark's visit
to my town. His big black bus stopped at a local mom 'n' pop diner just after 2 pm. There were about 125 supporters in the parking lot with signs, about 75 more people with Clark buttons inside eating. There was a great variety of people: veterans in peaked hats, kids about 10 years old, scions of our tobacco/textile families, guys with Nascar jackets on -- and many, many teachers like me.

He went inside the restaurant and went through the cafeteria line. He shook hands with dozens of people and signed autographs for them. L.F. Payne was with him and stood up to introduce him. This impressed me: Gen. Clark stepped down into the audience while Payne was talking and looked up at him with intense interest in what he was saying.

When Clark got up to speak, he told a joke that went over well and outlined his program (including $6000 a year for 2 years of college, health care and prescription drugs, and the environment). He introduced his son, who was with him.

The biggest audience reaction came when he said, "I've forgotten more about national security than George Bush ever..." then he was drowned out by cheers.

My favorite thing he said was: "I can bring jobs and I can bring peace. I've done both."

He shook more hands and went back to the parking lot to talk to reporters. Of course, the first question was about gay marriage. He said something to the effect that everyone must have equal rights. He said he would love his son just as much if he were gay.

He left after about 30 minutes. Some of the remarks I heard as he left were, "Well, he got my vote", "He was impressive", etc. Some people repeated the joke he told with obvious pleasure (It was "They told me the first thing that happens when you campaign is, you lose your voice. The second thing is, your grip hurts. I don't want to find out what the third thing is.") The ladies in the cafeteria line were thrilled that "he even came back here to say hello to us."

One of the tobacco/textile ladies spoke up loudly for Dean to her friends. The friends demurred in favor of Clark. Two suited, clean-cut middle-aged men were positively star-struck at meeting L.F.Payne. This all goes to show that Democrats are still a force in rural, southern Virginia!:dem:

Still voting for and supporting Clark.

Went to Dems Abroad caucus in Hong Kong today. Kerry got our one delegate. No one else was viable (Clark was at 14%), but it didn't really matter, because our one delegate was going to go to the overall winner anyway (which would have been Kerry). So, I actually chose not to caucus and am going to do my absentee ballot in New York instead . . . caucuses are so stupid. I'd rather my vote be counted then engage in some horse-trading action.

But it was very interesting nevertheless. The woman who spoke on behalf of Clark (I don't have her name) worked in the Clinton WH for 8 years (in the protocol office, I believe). She said that she has met all of the candidates numerous times, and Clark was the most impressive by far. There was also a man I spoke with later who went to high school with Clark and had some good stories. Obviously also a supporter.

An interesting experience, but I'm glad I chose not to caucus and look forward to checking Clark's name for New York.

on edit: also, the caucus today reinforced my decision that Clark is definitely the best. Listening to what other people had to say about their candidates showed that Clark shines above the rest. Not that anyone was bad (the Edwards guy was actually quite good), but Clark has the positive traits highlighted by all the speakers . . . and more. The most irritating thing were Kerry supporters pushing the 'electabilty' issue. They took it as gospel that Kerry was the most electable because . . . well, just because. On the bright side, I was able to talk some people into at least looking at Clark, and made some good points (if I do say so myself).

Stood with signs outside Bath Iron Works shipyard in a snowstorm, a Republican vows he'll vote for Clark in the GE. Via e-block, 150 handwritten letters to 4 states, will speak for Clark at tomorrow's caucus. You bet, you've got Clark folks who'll go to the wire and more. Go Wes!

94. I just finished an eblock of calls to TN.
Several were No Answer/No Answering Machine. One I left a message on. One is thinking about Clark as he is the only candidate she has received mailers from, and three or four were solidly for Clark, including one whole household that voted absentee for Clark. Great Clark response!
They hate the Robo-callers, though.
