1. This guy is wrong about XM as far as I can tell
Those two DJs are not "XM DJs" they just happen to be one of the syndicated hosts that appears on XM in the same way that all of AAR appears on XM. If Al Franken did an event they could not claim that XM was sponsoring the event.

2. It's a woman!
You cannot compare Al Franken to Swift Liars.

Quinn & Rose is also carried by Clear Channel, the biggest radio behemoth of them all, through station 104.7 FM in Pittsburgh. Other syndicated hosts on this station have included Glenn Beck, Neal Boortz, and Sean Hannity, as well as Rush Limbaugh. Got audience? I'll say. Vets for Truth really knows how to pick' em, don't they?

6. I did read the article. Did you read my post?

In no way did I compare Al Franken to the Swift Liars. I made an analogy.

Saying that XM is supporting the Swift Liars because Quinn & Rose are attending is the same as saying that Al Franken attending something is an XM endorsement.

Neither Franken nor Quinn & Rose are agents of XM Radio though both are carried by XM Radio.

It is not my fault that the woman who wrote this article doesn't understand this.

8. And CNN, MSNBC and Fox

aren't agents of liars either. But these stations can be faulted for continuing to give people like the Swift Liars and Ann Coulter a venue to spew lies and smear, just as is being done here.

9. I was merely pointing out the error here.
This is not insignificant. She claims that XM Radio as an entity is sponsoring this event. This is simply not true. Either we believe in truthfulness or not. Your point is enitrely different. Additionally I believe that Rush Limbaugh and these wahckjobs have just as much right to the airwaves (via satellite or terrestrial) as Air America does.

If XM radio were indeed sponsoring such an event I woudl cancel my subscription. That two disc jockeys who are carried on XM are attending this event is a completely different matter. I have taken the step of removing America Right (the right-wing rant station on XM) from my radio. They have every right to spew their crap though and XM Radio shouldn't be faulted for carrying it any more than they should be faulted for carrying Air America.

10. It isn't an error.
Al Franken is an Air America radio host. So identifying these two as XM and Clear Channel radio host is correct. Also, there is a big difference between hosting a Swift Liars event and simply offering commentary, or spewing lies in Limbaugh's case. The Swift Liars group is a GOP-operated entity with the sole purpose of smearing Democrats. Any media outlet that offers a venue for these types of attacks should be called out.

11. I IS an error. The error is the claim the XM Radio is SPONSORING the event
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 09:28 AM by Caution
They are doing no such thing. Either you are purposefully trying to change my argument into something about whether or not these people are "XM DJs" or not (they are, which I state quite clearly) or I have not stated my point clearly enough.

Let me be as clear as possible.
This woman states that XM Radio is sponsoring this event

This is an ERROR

XM Radio is NOT sponsoring this event.

Here is the relevant passage in her post:
That XM radio is sponsoring such an event, through the publicized appearances of their hosts Quinn & Rose, is quite an endorsement.

This is flat out WRONG.

13. I dont find the appearance to be acceptable, But I do not see how XM is
culpable in this. That woman's post is clearly attempting to tie XM Radio as an entity to this event, when it should in no way be tied to it. They have absolutely nothing to do with the event. If XM didn't carry AAR as well as these whackjobs you might be able to make a case that XM was somehow rightwing because they only carried rightwing radio hosts, but this isnt the case since they are balanced by AAR (a perfect implementation of the fairness doctrine).

Also i take exception to the implication that somehow i find Swift Boating acceptable in any way. I do not, nor have I said that I did nor have I implied that I did.

My whole point is that this article serves to paint a negative but unwarrented picture of XM Radio. I personally wish that ClearChannel and the other radio networks would follow XM's lead and carry progressive voices as well as reactionary right wing voices (who have just as much right to the airwaves as everyone else in America).

3. They are exploiting 9-11 families because Murtha spoke up about IRAQ?
Edited on Fri Sep-22-06 03:07 PM by blm
Typical GOP recipe - pretend that Iraq was responsible for 9-11 and squeeze till there's no credibility left in this country anymore.

4. Let's point out some facts
Jim Quinn and Rose do host a morning show on Clear Channel owned WPGB in Pittsburgh. They do have OK ratings in Pittsburgh, but overall a very small audience compared to the other 30 radio stations in Pittsburgh.

There is a very small non-Clear Channel owned station in Altoona, PA that carries their show which yields very low ratings. They have a third affiliate in Akron, OH. that also gets pretty low audience ratings with Arbitron. That's it. 3 radio stations.

OK, so they may be on XM. Again, the total XM audience in the US is a fraction of what total radio reaches. Then add in the fact that XM has about 200 channels. Quinn and Rose are a speck of dust in a vaccum bag.

A few other notes, Jim Quinn is a complete Rush wannabe. He and Rush were both rock 'n roll DJs in Pittsburgh a number of years ago on KQV. Rush's name was Jeff Christie on the air.

Rush went on to fame and fortune while Quinn made a mediocre career and is stuck in Pittsburgh.

5. I wonder if Rush pays Quinn hush-money about his departure from Pitt?
Jeff Christie and his proclivities came to mind.

Pirates look for bigger market on FM dial

Snip...

Schuldt said WPGB-FM and the five other Clear Channel stations in the Pittsburgh market will provide the club with a larger audience of men aged 25-54. Studies by the Pirates revealed that age group is by far the most likely to purchase season tickets -- the ultimate goal of the baseball club, Schuldt said.

Schuldt said three Clear Channel stations -- WDVE-FM (102.5), WXDX-FM (105.9) and WPGB-FM -- have a 39.7 share of the market in that 25-54 age-range, while the CBS Radio cluster, which includes KDKA Radio and three FM stations, has a 17.3 market share.

"Our messages are going to be heard by more of that desired target audience," Schuldt said.
