Anyone seen this "anti-stem cell" ad?
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 09:21 PM by gulliver
I'm seeing this in St. Louis, MO.

There is this twentyish girl sitting alone on the middle of the bed. She is distraught, trembling, on the verge of tears. Then she says something like, "I needed the money, so I sold my eggs. My mom is upset. Now they say I could get ovarian cancer or even be sterile. Some women might even die."

Finally, a voice over says something like, "Embryonic stem cell research will need a lot of eggs. If you support embryonic stem cell research, you are for duping innocent twenty-somethings into sterility and death." OK, I made up the last part, but the voice-over does say that embryonic stem cell research will need a lot of eggs.

I never knew embryonic stem cell research involved fraud and barbarism like this. I thought the embryonic stem cells came from embryos resulting from in vitro fertilization and would otherwise be thrown away. But would these people lie about something that important to sick people? Surely not.

5. Gee, they'll need a lot of sperm too.
I wonder if there's another ad showing a guy looking distraught, wailing "Waaa! They made me look at dirty mags and wank into a cup! Waaa!"

The voiceover could say something like, "Embryonic stem-cell research will need a lot of sperm. If you support embryonic stem cell research, you are for duping innocent twentysomethings into a lifetime of blindness and hairy palms."

What a crock!

8. I'll get the name of the organization next time I see it.
I assumed that a lot of people had seen it. Guess maybe not. Interesting that stem cell research is a big difference between Talent and McCaskill.

There is a great pro stem cell ad on too, and it is truthful.

let you forget you're a man. Cuz I'm a stem cell selling gal.

Sorry. Can't stop myself. The ad was too, too ridiculous.

13. Are they trying to imply that young women sell their eggs just for
use in stem cell research? How bogus.

Also, I wasn't aware that donating eggs was so dangerous as they make it sound. This reminds me of the "abortions cause breast cancer" canard.

14. No, it looks like they're saying young women will be duped into
getting their eggs harvested and then get a terminal illness from it. I was just going to the next level. What kind of women willing sells her eggs? A bad li-bare-all!

18. stem cell research
Those who want to deny the benefits of stem cell research to sick people are despicable. Why doesn't it surprise me that they'd lie like this?
