The Democrats need to marshall their troops for a Daily Rebuttal.
They need to demand press coverage, because each and every day a different Dem is going to come out with gloves off and refute the latest garbage from the WH, whether it be a temper tantrum from * or a spin from Mr. Rover. Each and every day -- one day Ted Kennedy, the next day Feingold, and on and on and on. They will take 10 minutes, give the press plenty to chew on, and take no questions. They will state that they are representing the millions of Americans whose voices aren't heard, who "disappear" in official polls and at the voting booth. And they will do it until the 08 election. Let 'er rip!

2. How do you demand press coverage?
I think they did something like that last week, and the press accused them of trying to politicize 9/11, and bury Bush's message, or some bullshit like that.

3. Good idea - if it's not covered, it would be something to point at
I think there SHOULD be questions after the statement. Many Democrats, including the 2 mentioned, are great with questions - no questions seem Republican.

5. It'd hopefully silence the "Dems have no ideas" crowd ...
or at least reduce the volume of that b.s.

4. I like that idea! Plan it at the same time so someone
can be assigned to cover and report on it on a daily basis.

6. REBUTTAL BY DEMOCRATS
Is there a War Room now? If not, why not???
Then we can be pro-active first.
This is along the lines of comment from The Note, which
advised that the winners in 2006 will be the party on the
first page most of the days.

7. A Daily Rebuttal would require a Daily Spine.
And none of the elected flunkies you mentioned have a spine for very long. Or maybe there's only one spine, and they take turns shifting it from body to body.

Better that someone with passion...someone on DU, for instance...do the rebuttal. Some of the columnists featured here. But please, none of the Pink Tutu Democrats!

8. Huh?
Demand press coverage? They'd be either ignored, if everyone's eloquent and cogent, or ridiculed, if someone commits a gaffe. I wouldn't be surprised to see Katie Whoric or Tweety actually edit the video to out words n Dems' mouth, and them rip them for the words.

The media are plain and simply campaigning for Smirk and the GOP, though someone on DU over the weekend tried to tell me that they're "a wash".

10. Clinton got elected the first time because his team created daily events
the press would want to cover, invited reporters individually, and followed up to make sure they got there. Very smart people came up with ideas every night for discussion at 7 am the next day. Unless somebody at the meeting spoke up with a good reason why not, every one of those ideas was prioritized and implemented to the full extent of resources available.

12. And because the media was still fairly honest at that point
If the media had been in 1992 as it is now, all we would have heard about 24/7 is Gennifer Flowers. Given the fact that the network TV, cable "news" and radio has refused to cover Treasongate, Shotgungate, Gitmogate, Anthrax, Yellowcakegate, Mission Accomplished, and a hundred other scandals, why do you think that they would shed any good light on the daily "events"?

If you want to know how one side the media is, imagine if, while in office, Al Gore had gone away for the weekend with a woman besides his wife, gotten drunk, and shot someone in the face. The story would have run 24/7 for a year. Instead it lasted for 2 days, when the victim apologized to the criminal

9. Definitely--A DNC War Room, like the one Carville and Begala ran
for Bill Clinton in 1992. See http://www.amazon.com/Buck-Suck-Come-Back-When/dp/0743234480 for excerpts from their book on "12 Winning Secrets from the War Room"

Do you remember the three rules for their staff they posted on the wall?

14. Not a rebuttal, but an OFFENSIVE type of message--like calling
Bush a f*cking liar every day....

Hell, there aren't that many days til election day...it should be easy enough to come up with a LIE OF THE DAY ....

15. The DNC does do that almost every day.
http://www.democrats.org/press.php

Dean responded promptly to Bush's UN speech today. The DNC does that constantly.

17. They have demanded press coverage. Reid/Pelosi sent a letter
to all major media asking for rebuttal time, to no avail. It was just about 3 weeks ago I believe?
