You know, he is going to be a saint - swear to god.

(I'll probably go to hell now) - It is really true though.

My dad was a fighter pilot - fought the Nazis's killed about 1200 of them. Mom was an evac nurse - a hospital train nurse - Uncle John was a CL in 3rd army, uncle len was XO of an aircraft carrier, my brothers all went in Viet Nam and mostly my kid is in the 118th company, 3rd brigade, 2nd division (I lose track of how many) tours this is in Iraq. Uncle Wilfred was was in the first wave at Guadalcanal.

This is all unreal.

But - the new Saint John of Madera -well, thats my grand Uncle.

As the grand nephew of the new saint - YOU ARE NO CHRISTIAN "W" -

It should scare the hell out of you to think "I" am a better christian - and I was stoned most of that year I got confirmed.

SO FU,

Joe

2. Awesome!
So what did he do? What was his miracle? Will there be little gold charms, statues, all that stuff?

Yes, I'm blasphemous... but I think your uncle becoming a saint is RIGHT ON!

5. I never paid that close attention, really.
I know the first was as a healer. The second was his body didn't decay - and I don't know the third.

That cannonization went on since before I was born.

He was a priest on the island of Madera.

He wasn't the only priest in my family. Frankly, one of my Uncles was a Monsignor - and he got more "press" in my family - I don't know how else to say that.

4. You get a free pass to heaven, you know
I think it's automatic for the family of a saint.

So, enjoy life! You've got holy diplomatic immunity!

10. I'm with you - I think all our mothers are saints
for tolerating us.

Thanks,

Joe

8. That's very cool, Joe
One of my great-grand uncles was a brother in the order that founded Dubuque, Iowa (I would think the Selesians, being he was born and raised near Breslau before emigrating, but who knows?).
Not nearly as cool as having a saint in the family, but a nice (if trivial) piece of history. My congratulations and, when they name a high school after your uncle (and they will), reserve me a tee shirt.
John
Still some sort of Catholic, though probably not one Rome would easily recognize. Probably not our uncles, neither.
