1. Good for SI

say what you want about Pat Tillman -- that he was misled by Bush's lies or whatever -- but you can't question the man's integrity. We here at DU often impugn the morals of conservatives by telling them that if they agree with this war so much, they should sign up.

Well, Tillman did just that. And he gave up a lot more than most people to do it.

3. He wasn't a conservative

Not sure if you were implying that or not, but he wasn't a conservative, in fact he was anti-Bush and an atheist. He urged people in the military to vote for Kerry and was planning on meeting with Noam Chomsky when he got back to the US, which he obviously never did.

The September 25, 2005 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper reported that Tillman held views which were critical of the Iraq war and did not support President Bush's re-election. According to Tillman's mother, a friend of Tillman had arranged a meeting with Noam Chomsky, to take place after his return from Afghanistan. Chomsky confirmed this. <13> The article also reported that Tillman urged a soldier in his platoon to vote for John Kerry in the 2004 U.S. Presidential election. <14>

Well, Tillman did just that. And he gave up a lot more than most people to do it.

5. Not that this applies to Tillman...

but if Conservatives support the war, they should sign up. If they sign up they've still got to worry about the unfortunate business of supporting the war.

9. Kick for a great American

He passed up a multi-million dollar contract to fight for the country, was morally opposed the invasion of Iraq as a distraction from that fight, did his duty, and died saving a fellow Ranger's life.

I hope, some day, for his sake and his family's, the Army comes clean about all that really happened that day.
