3. I was hoping Casey would get him on Social Security.
Santorum has been running those ads in PA where he's at a polka party with seniors. He talks about working to guarantee their Social Security. Meanwhile, Lil' Ricky did exactly the opposite--toured the state touting Bush's privatization plan.

Don't know about the cheating factor in PA (hopefully it's nil), but based on this debate, I see Casey winning in a landslide.

56. PA was one of the most statistically anomalous states in
the 2004 Presidential election.

It escaped notice because Kerry still won, but there were, if memory serves,
1 million excess votes for Bush in PA, and Kerry's win was a squeaker.

10. He personally called me on the phone, from his home, on a Sunday night.
Casey is a genuinely nice and caring individual. He spent 45 minutes on the phone with me, and we talked about every issue under the sun. I asked him tough question after tough question, and he seemed very well informed about everything.

I had written him a letter. Mr. Casey said he was so touched by the letter that he felt compelled to respond. I was impressed that he cared enough about one voter's opinions to call her at home from his own home (I could hear his daughters in the background).

I then got to meet Bob at a fundraiser. He is warm and intelligent, and I think this campaigning "thing" is starting to grow on him.

I may not agree with him on every issue, but he would represent this state very well.

19. Did you bring up the voting machines?
That's an issue everywhere now. PA has plenty of opportunity for rigging. He should not concede if he happens to lose no matter what and fight to the bitter end, demand recounts, etc., especially if as usual the polls show him leading going in and/or the exit polls show him winning.

66. I've told many, many people in the area where I live.
Democrats and Republicans, both. They all seem to be very impressed that Casey would make such an effort.

When Casey called he said, "Is this the #### residence?" I said, "Yes." He said, "This is Bob Casey."
I said, "Right." He then said, "No really, it is. I got your letter." Then I knew it was really him, because no one else knew about that letter.

There were a lot of family problems and situations that I explained to Bob. He was genuinely moved by what I had written to him. Can you imagine that arrogant Santorum making such a call?

I got to meet him at a fundraiser in Pittsburgh which John Edwards also attended. Casey remembered me right away.

I know Republicans in this area who are repulsed by Santorum and can't wait to vote him out of office.
Bob Casey will represent our state much better than that sleazy Santorum could ever hope to.

13. No.
He must be referring to a comment Gov Rendell made a couple weeks ago, but Rendell absolutely supports Casey, I'm working on a combined Rendell/Casey phone bank and canvassing project at the Gov's Pittsburgh HQ.
I also heard the Gov say something nice about his opponent (Swann) at the Dem picnic this summer. That doesn't mean he supports him.
How did Casey respond to this? I can't watch it until 10:30.

14. So what is it Santorum? Flyovers?
He estimated he may have spent 30 nights in his house in Pennsylvania last year and then went on to defend himself about attacking former opponent on the basis of time spent in Pennsylvania as approximately 28 days during the year. For some odd reason he thinks the fact that he owns a home in Pennsylvania that he may have spent 30 nights in out of 365 makes him better than his former opponent.

And good for Timmy. He actually asked a few questions today.

Why was Casey unable to say that he would have voted against the war given what we know now? He couldn't get it out.

Casey did win the debate although Timmy helped with several jabs at Man on Dog. BTW, Santorum should never be let anywhere near the levers of government. Anywhere. Ever.

He was trying to be supportive of those Dems who did vote for it (and his own prior statements) because this is all a rhetorical exercise - of course we DIDN'T know then what we know now. (Many of us suspected, but suspicion != knowledge)

57. Not about the Casey answer
The WMD have no impact on the fact that the idea of invading Iraq is a strategic geopolitical blunder in addition to being illegal.

Nevertheless, in reference to Casey's answer: Timmy had to ask him several times. I would suggest that any Democrat needs to understand that this will be an issue, and that the answer needs to be unqualified and crisp. Fine, if he wants to say that knowing what we know he wouldn't have voted for it. Personally, I would drop the "never come up for a vote" because it's one too many qualifiers. Get the answer out.

BTW. When I saw Hegel in March, he said that he never bought into the WMD threat about Saddam. He said he voted "yea" to support his president (I hate when the republicans use that possessive pronoun) and because he, Hegel, thought that bush would vigorously pursue diplomacy. Clear answer.

and actually helped Casey on rephrasing the IWR question at least twice to get him to restate that he now thinks it was a mistake. Russert seemed to anger Santorum at various points especially when he spoke of how close he was to Bush and when he spoke about his Pennsylvania house.

He acquitted himself very well and,of course, Tricky Ricky was his nausea inducing self. On a side note I thought Fat Timmy bordered on impartial. His performance coupled with Nora O'Donnell's recent impersonation of a real journalist has got to be unsettling to Republicans who have become comfortable using NBC News as a stenographic service.

Santorum just keeps trying to deflect criticisim of Iraq by trying to blame it all on Iran. Casey is on the attack but also has the whole situation on his side. I also LOVE how he's making sure to tie Santorum to Bush in every sentence just like Bush did with Iraq and 9/11.

It's just another way of trying to deflect attention away from the fact that they have no plan for ever getting us out of Iraq. It also works nicely for them ginning up the Iran operation. Toward the end, Man on Dog was really getting loud and desperate. I was hoping Bob would tell him to pipe down and stop yelling, but then I realized he let him go so people could see how irate and out of control he was.

60. Casey is extremely week on global issues and especially on the
Iraq and terror war. He needs a real good coach, like Kerry maybe.

63. I think the same answer Sen Kerry gave about Lamont applies.
IIRC, he said that at one point, every senator is a first term senator.
I think Casey's got what it takes. I don't agree with him on every issue, especially on his not supporting a timeline for redeployment, but I do think he will vote with Dems.
And I believe he won the debate decisively. He had Santorum borderline raving. I think Casey's calm demeanor really drives Ricky nuts (or nuttier, I guess).
It's not really a tactic, it's just how Casey is, but IMO, it works well.

I agree, Sen Kerry would be a great mentor for our future senator.

67. The real election season begins on Tuesday.
Casey still has time (not much though) to keep and build onto his lead.

71. I think Lamont is much clearer on where he stands on Iraq.
I was very disappointed in his quick answer against Kerry's plan. He could have at least given Kerry some credit for certain parts of the plan. It appeared he was running as far away as possible from it. No doubt he will vote Dem though, I never thought he wouldn't. I think the disappointment in his not at least supporting kerry at all was my biggest complaint, that and to a lesser extent, that he seemed a little smug. he is being guided by Paul Begalia, and I can see his influence in this debate. I don't care for Begalia's style.

That said, I need to go back to English 101, I spelled weak wrong. Gosh, I have got to start proof reading.

65. He didn't sound weak during the debate.
I just think he needs some fine tuning on how to fight Repukelican lies and smears. It's difficult for decent people to understand how sick and twisted these thugs are, but a little time in the trenches will teach him.

get more air time, get away with interrupting Casey (a lot), and timmy interrupted Casey too, almost always as he tried to answer, and timmy didn't interrupt santorum near as much as he did Casey. Or was it me?????

70. I don't think it was you - I think Santorum got far more air time
He's a master at the Repuke trick on fast-endless talking and interrupting your opponent. And Timmy like a lot of the pundits let him get away with it. Plus in some cases not letting Casey answer a talking point.

72. I think he did give Santorum more time.
But that just gave the little blowhard fascist more opportunities to bury himself. :D

74. Actually...
...I thought Casy was extremely weak on MTP this morning. He sounded unprepared and did not debate well.

78. Why is it....
....that only those who are non-DU supporters liked Santorum more than Casey in that debate?

Santorum SUCKED.

Casey easily won.

Strange... strange.... strange..

usually following some pathetic media flop by a r/w nutjob.
