President 2008: Blind Bio Poll of New Hampshire
Here is a treat for all you MyDD addicts on a Friday night. Zogby conducted a blind biography poll of possible 2008 Democratic Presidential candidates among likely primary voters in New Hampshire. I managed to get my hands on a copy, and I have uploaded the results to our servers. Check it out:

Question Script
Results and crosstabs

Here were the results:

Warner: 15%
Clark: 14%
Feingold: 12%
Bayh: 11%
Edwards: 10%
Clinton: 6%
Richardson: 5%
Kerry: 5%
Gravel: 5%
Vilsack: 3%
Biden: 3%
Unsure: 11%

To be fair to Clinton and Edwards, I think anyone with half a brain knew which "blind bios" were theirs. Also, I'm not really sure how useful this is, since no campaign is ever able to get their message out in a vacuum like this. Still, it is fun stuff, and I think shows that some candidates have more potential than others. I also think it shows that Biden might want to reconsider what he is doing.

Also, I think Candidate K is Gary Hart, but I'm not sure. If anyone can verify who Candidate K is, please say so in the comments.

2.  Blind bios, my ass. Dem STRATEGISTS who don't believe the GOP controls
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 12:11 PM by blm
most media and voting machines don't deserve ATTENTION.

Their STRATEGY is for the Democratic party to nominate CENTRIST SOUTHERN GOVERNORS by pushing the MEMES that only centrist governors can get elected.

THAT is what PAYS their expensive MORTGAGES. The corporatists want Dem voters moved to the center right and they are willing to pay the big bucks to do it. Notice that Mydd and Kos are on the Warner backwagon? $$$$$$$

If the GOP control of media and the voting machines was exposed and confronted, Dems would get to take office and alot of Dem strategists would be out of work.

3. blm, I usually agree with you, but I disagree on your assessment of this
If what you say is true, then why is Clark number two and then no governors until quite far down?

For what its worth, Warner has painted himself in bland shades of 'no position' making him inoffensive to everyone. Not a winning strategy for the real world, but effective in this sort of thing.

(Other than K, those bios may as well have names on them, huh?)

6. My assessment is that these are NOT blind bios. They are worded to push

towards an AGENDA pushed by Southern strategists that it needs to be a southerner and preferebly a southern governor to win in 2008. They completely ignore the media bias and the voting machine fraud, so how CAN any Dem win with strategists who think the only problem in the party is the top of the ticket needs to be a southerner, preferably a centrist southern governor while dismissing machine fraud and corporate media bias?

Do you think ANY qualified Democrat would lose in 2008 if the corporate media bias was exposed and dealt with and the voting machines were exposed and secured before the election?

It also presumes that southerners and military men are stronger on security issues which feeds into and ACCEPTS the GOP memes. Even Kucinich would be stronger on terrorism than any GOP because he would attack its root causes and is one of the Dems more likely to open the books on BushInc which would REALLY deal with the sources of terrorism and who FUNDS it. And he would attack the REAL TERRORISTS just as a Kerry, Clark or Hart would.

4. Edwards is going to win IA, NV and SC
and Mark Warner will win NH.

The ticket will be Edwards/Warner.

I'd personally rather see Warner/Feingold or Warner/Schweitzer or Schweitzer/Feingold.

But I'll lay money it will be Edwards/Warner.

7. Well, they'll have the chance to prove they earned it during the debates.
Democratic voters are funny that way - they really like to wait and see how all the candidates perform in the debates and in the public arena.

15. That probably makes a lot of sense
They are my top two but I prefer Warner in an open race. We could win Virginia with Warner in the VP slot, but far from a certainty. Atop the ticket those 13 electoral votes are a virtual lock.

Like skipos says we're seldom strategic but you'd have to think Warner would top any VP list if he lacks the nomination.

Edwards winning SC is the largest favortism by far of the opening four states. For what it's worth, there was an online poll here in Nevada on a liberal blog with Richardson winning. He was the only one in the 20s last I checked. Edwards and Warner were basically tied in the next bracket at about 15% each.

5. Bio campaigns are not going to work for President.
Biography based campaigns are the strategy of every Democratic candidate and strategist who is afraid to be controversial or offend people with the issues. It works in some races on occasion but it doesn't motivate people or lead to real change. If we're going to nominate another candidate who tries to run on his bio like Kerry did in '04 then we might as well give up now. "Look at me and how great I am" is not going to work this time either. This is quickly becoming my political pet peeve.

and their vision for the country.

9. The Zogby blind poll's biographies were biased themselves
For instance only Kerry was identified as voting for the IWR - and it was not mentioned that even before the war, he was against it.

11. Warner has been in NH all year
Even though the media isn't reporting it. he's raising money to launch a Presidential race. so this poll doesn't surprise me. if Hilliary doesn't get in the race i predict Warner will get the nomination.

12. Well Clark has been appearing with candidates all over the place...
in particular where we need to pick up seats in order to gain a majority in either/both houses, even if the media is not reporting it. He's raising money to get Democrats elected....so this poll does somewhat surprise me.

If Democrats don't start realizing that we cannot ignore the issues that will determine election 2008 (and we cannot wait until the GOP "tells us" what they are)....then I predict that Democrats will lose the General Election by nominating Warner, Clinton or Edwards.
