Lieberman's main backers are Republicans
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 01:24 PM by invictus
"The latest Quinnipiac University poll, conducted between August 10-14, shows Lieberman leads Democrat Ned Lamont, a wealthy businessman with little political experience who has played on anti-war sentiment, by 53 percent to 41 percent among likely voters in November's election. The Republican candidate Alan Schlesinger drew 4 percent, the poll shows.

"The survey found that Lieberman polled best among likely Republican voters, leading the others with 75 percent of the vote compared with Lamont's 13 percent and Schlesinger's 10 percent.

"Senator Lieberman's support among Republicans is nothing short of amazing," Douglas Schwartz, the university's polling director said in a statement. "As long as Lieberman maintains this kind of support among Republicans while holding onto a significant number of Democratic votes, the veteran senator will be hard to beat."

This Senate race all comes down to party loyalty. If Democrats stay united behind Lamont, then Lamont will win in a landslide. If certain Democrats betray their party and ally themselves with the Republicans then Lieberman will win as a cypto-Republican and will likely be rewarded with a Senate Committee Chairmanship after he makes his Republican Party membership official.

4. De-facto?
---What Lieberman's success with republicans tells you is that THE WAR is the ONLY issue,.....at least as far as the election is concerned. No one knows better than republicans how stupid, shallow and easily distracted American voters are,... and they are ONLY concerned about Lieberman's credentials where the war is concerned. If republicans can get a semi-believeable "scare-scenario" going by election time, they they can expect to do much better than if the news is filled by the ongoing disasters of the ill-advised Iraq war,.. Things in Iraq aren't going to change for the better, and the GOP'ers know this,..... therefore the campaign imperative becomes, "DISTRACT."

3. Misleading...
Lieberman is also getting 58% of Independents and 35% of Democrats...

It's these latter two groups Lamont has to convince or he is finished!
