How Joe Lieberman failed us on National Security
Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 07:09 PM by MissWaverly
Remember, this is Homeland Security - the organization that's supposed to be countering terrorism. Somehow, attiring a couple thousand Poodles in designer booties doesn't seem to fit that objective. Having widespread theft in the organization doesn't, either. (The dishonest hacks running DHS will say that it's just a few bad apples. But the fact is that they don't have any idea how many, and the fact is that it's their sloppy management that is allowing it to happen.)

In summary, congress uncovered outright theft - not on a small scale, but widespread institutionalized stealing on the part of government employees. The two empty suits who initiated the investigation - Senator Lieberman (D-CT) and Senator Collins (R-ME) scowled and made well-crafted comments on their outrage. But neither of these clowns - nor anyone else in congress - made a peep about finding the thieves and prosecuting them.

1. The sheer power of their outrage
didn't count for squat.

Nothing is gonna happen in this nation til there's real oversight, when Dems get at least one house of Congress, and that will never happen with the "go along to get along" approach that Joe thinks is so valuable to having civility and bipartisanship in Washington.

Great post, MissW.

been like animal house does the presidency, Thanks, bleever, I can't tell you how much I
enjoyed your posts after the 2004 fiasco, I used to read them every night before bed.

4. National Security, for Joe, is the status quo, per Bushco.
Me no likey.

If I'm supposed to feel safer, how come I'm always being told to be afraid?

3. here's what they found in the investigation
Investigators also noted that Customs and Border Protection wasted up to $464,586 by buying meals-ready-to-eat over the Internet instead of contracting through the Pentagon, as is standard procedure. And they found that the Federal Emergency Management Agency cannot locate 107 laptops, 22 printers and two GPS units worth $170,000. FEMA also cannot find 12 of 20 boats the agency bought for $208,000.

The senators who ordered the investigation — Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Joe Lieberman, D-Conn. — described Homeland Security as negligent in controlling the shopaholics in its ranks. The two lead the Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Homeland Security "left the door wide open for these abuses," Collins said.
Added Lieberman: "That is hard to believe

7. Agreed that Lieberman has done an inadequate job at keeping
us safe on so many levels including his current stint on Homeland security!

Joe Lieberman is a National Security Poseur!

8. this only re-enforces my idea that 9-11 was an inside job
Do you really think they would have squandered money on beer machines or 22,000 designer
booties for dogs if 9-11 had been real.

9. Whether let it or made it happen .....I don't know, however, whichever
it was (and I could go with both theories)....they certainly knew way, way more than they ever "revealed"!

Why they ain't fixed it yet? Wish I knew!

10. agree
that's one of the reasons that I am unlikely to give my support to a senator for president,
the dems had clout before the 02 and 04 elections and they squandered it.
