Meet, IMO, our best candidate for U.S. Senate in 2006.
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 08:46 PM by nickshepDEM
Sheldon Whitehouse

He has a very warm and honest demenour. His record is amazing and his position on the issues are great.

*U.S. Attorney appointed by President Clinton
*First prosecutor to convict a member of organized crime under Clinton's three strikes law" for organized crime.
*Prosecuted members of the Rhode Island Latin Kings, a violent criminal gang that committed murder, drug dealing, assault, and racketeering

*Attorney General
*Sued to block Bush administration efforts to weaken the Clean Air Act.
*Led the investigation into a devastating oil spill in Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay, and made sure the fine – the largest in the state’s history – was used for conservation.

On the issues-

Out of Iraq by the end of the year.
Scrap Medicare Part D.
Block all attempts to privatize SS and cut benefits.
Double Pell Grants.
Repeal Bush Tax Cuts.
Supports Windfall Profits Tax on Big Oil.

And the list goes on...

I really like this guy and believe he would be a very effective Senator. His campaign slogan is kind of catchy too. "Sheldon Whitehouse - Finally a Whitehouse in Washington, you can trust."

3. Certainly sounds better than my state's candidate: Bob Casey.
Don't get me wrong, I want him to beat Santorum, but from everything I hear he just sounds like another DINO.

12. I voted Penacchio
But at least, at the VERY least, Bob Casey isn't Rick Santorum. And that is still saying a lot.

20. casey is still a huge improvement over santorum
and chafee is one of the moderate repubs, so the net gain in each race may be roughly the same :)

7. How is the other Republican doing? I would hate for him to win
the primary and risk losing Chafee's seat to a more conservative republican.

9. Laffey is doing 'ok' in the primary, but I doubt he can beat Chafee.
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 09:05 PM by nickshepDEM
However, if he somehow did, it would be a blessing that words cannot describe for us Democrats.

In a head to head matchup vs Laffey, Whitehouse is crushing him by 20% or so.

16. Ok, good. I figured Rhode Island wouldn't be too eager to elect
someone as conservative as Laffey. From all that I know about Chafee, he's probably the least conservative Republican in the Senate, but Whitehouse seems like a great candidate and I hope he wins.

13. It's a shame
that Whitehouse is wasted on a guy like Chafee. Don't get me wrong, any bit helps to get a Democratic Senate. But if there is any Republican to keep in the Senate, it would be Lincoln Chafee. Voted against Iraq is a good vote IMO. Or was it the Patriot Act he voted against?

17. He is totally sincere
though my deepest fear is that he is too erudite and intellectual for the idiotic masses to get. Much like Kerry.
