what was the turning point for LIEberman?
From Political Wire blog

August 08, 2006
Thoughts on Connecticut
Sen. Joe Lieberman's (D-CT) decision to make contingency plans to run as an independent in the event he lost today's Senate primary may have been the turning point in this campaign. Though no polls asked the question, the decision will almost certainly cost him votes.

I'm told Lieberman campaign manager Sean Smith argued against the move, pitting him against longtime Lieberman advisers who remember how Lowell Weicker resuscitated his political career as an independent after losing his U.S. Senate seat to Lieberman 18 years ago.

1. Lieberman's speech against Democrats who criticiize Bush
...about the war may have been a crucial factor.

2. That was it for me. After that, I could not give him my vote.
I will not tolerate being accused of treason by anyone.

4. His Op-ed at the NY Times when he chastised Democrats
for criticizing Bush. By the time he allied himself with the GOP in opposing both the Kerry/Feingold Iraq exit resolution, and the watered-down version introduced by Durbin, even the most moderate of Democrats knew that Joe went over the line.

5. I thought becoming an independent killed Weicker's campaign!
switching parties would of been better for the Weicker campaign than running as an independent. correct me if I'm wrong..but I thought Weicker became an independent before the 1988 election. did Weicker even run in the Republican primary the year he lost?

6. There are so many answers to that question, all different and
and at least some element of truth to most of them.

The turning point for NoMoJo NoMo, for me, personally, was his speeches during the 2004 democratic presidential primary run. I found him rather faded and dull prior to that, turning to mild disgust at his later tripe.

7. Gore ALMOST got me to vote for Nader in 2000
When he put Lieberman on the ticket. I got in the booth, and just couldn't do it.

8. The turning point was when they failed to get...
...Diebold machines installed in enough districts. Watch Republifascists make a concerted effort to get them virtually everywhere now. It's their ace in the hole and they know it.

9. First major turning point
was when he downplayed what happened at Abu Ghraib.

When John McCain condemned it in stronger words than Lieberman, I knew he had lost the slight bit of respect I had left for him. Up until then, I even defended him on occassion (on domestic issues atleast).
