An e-mail from StemPAC

Dear DemDiva:

Last week we told you about the launch of, a new effort to support candidates seeking to unseat House and Senate members who voted against HR 810, against stem cell research, and against hope.

In less than 7 days, we've raised nearly $10,000. Now it's time to drive that much, much higher. It's time for us to put up or shut up -- and contribute to these brave, pro-stem-cell challengers fighting against anti-stem-cell incumbents.

Eric Massa (NY-29)

Eric Massa is a 24-year veteran of the US Navy, running in the 29th district in New York against first term Congressman Randy Kuhl. Massas military background, keen intelligence, and powerful speaking style make him perfect for this rural district.

Massa has been a strong supporter of stem cell research, and has a very personal reasonhe is a cancer survivor himself.

Congressman Kuhl, on the other hand, has been an opponent of embryonic stem cell research, having voted twice against HR 810, the most important stem cell legislation in years.

Patrick Murphy (PA-08)

A dynamic young Iraq war veteran, Patrick Murphy has been outspoken and forceful in his support of stem cell research. His opponent, incumbent Michael Fitzpatrick, has voted against HR 810 twice.

This is a district that backed both Gore and Kerry by 4%. It is a district that Murphy can win.

Claire McCaskill (MO-Sen)

Missouri Senator Jim Talent voted against HR 810, and also opposes the Missouri Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative, slated for the November, 2006 ballot.

Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill has been one of the most ardent supporters of stem cell research of any candidate. The race is currently neck and neck in the polls, and fundraising could make the critical difference.

James Webb (VA-Sen)

Former Marine, Vietnam Veteran, and Secretary of the Navy, Democrat James Webb is facing Senator George Allen, a vocal opponent of embryonic stem cell research, and of HR 810 in particular.

Webb is the right candidate for Virginiafacing the wrong candidate for embryonic stem cell research.

Victoria Wulsin (OH-02)

Dr. Wulsin is a staunch supporter of embryonic research, running against Rep. Jean Schmidta staunch opponent.

Recent polling has shown it to be a close race, and pundit Charlie Cook recently placed it in the competitive category...

These are candidates who:

1) Have been strongly and vocally supportive of embryonic stem cell research
2) Have opponents who have not been supportive
3) Have a real chance of winningwith our help

When it comes to stem cell research, if you want to make as powerful an impact as possible with your donation, these are the candidates to support. We will update this page on an ongoing basis, always striving to give the strongest support to those candidates who have been strongest in their support of this critical researchregardless of their party. Got suggestions? Email John Hlinko of StemPAC (note: this is a separate effort from StemPAC, but you can check out the StemPAC site if you are new to the issue and need more background).

If you have a blog or web site, and want credit for sending donors, use a referral code. Simply append the name of your site to the end of this pages URL. For example, if your site were named BloggerForCures, use the following link:

(Please note: We have been frankly overwhelmed by campaigns requesting to be on this page. Thank you very much for your interest in the issue. Please bear with us as we research this, and get through calls, emails, etc., to get back to you)
