GOP leadership crafts plan to address voters' "anxieties"
As they wrapped up summer's work on Saturday morning Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) left his Republican conference with some parting thoughts about the August recess.
...
Boehner: "Despite the continued growth of our economy, however, too many American families continue to feel anxiety about the high cost of living. Our economic engine is firing on all cylinders, but too many American families are still feeling the pinch of rising health care costs, high gas prices, steep college tuition rates, and uncertainty about their retirement savings."

"International threats" are also contributing.

So the GOP's mission in August is "to engage our constituents in a dialogue about their hopes and anxieties and our majority's efforts to address them."

Love the throw-a-way about "international threats". I guess that would be the little detail about the war epidemic. In his memo, he explains about all the mayhem that his gopsters have protected everyone against, like the "Capitol Hill Democrats'" lust for wild spending, and how the "Capitol Hill Democrats" would drive up the deficit. Oh, and "Capitol Hill Democrats" have nixed drilling in ANWR -though I'm not sure why he wants to bring that up, since the public agrees with them.

But guess what's #1 on his list of topics about which he suggests "dialogue". Here's a hint:

Democrat Predicts Strategy of G.O.P.
August 6, 2005, Saturday

(AP); National Desk
The Democratic Party chairman, Howard Dean, argued on Friday that Republicans would try to make immigrants the ''scapegoats'' in the next election. At a rally here a few miles from the Mexico border, Mr. Dean garnered the loudest applause when he said Republicans would make immigration a pivotal issue.

1. YOU STUPID FUCK, BOEHNER!
"Our economic engine is firing on all cylinders, but too many American families are still feeling the pinch of rising health care costs, high gas prices, steep college tuition rates, and uncertainty about their retirement savings."

Then, by definition, our economy is NOT "firing on all cylindars." You and your buddies' Jaguar engines may be firing on all twelve cylinders, but out in Ford Taurus land, people are running on fumes. You elitist, lying scum! Get a clue about the people you are supposed to be "representing."

2. "GOP leadership crafts plan to exploit voters' fears"
Of course, no mention is made of the fact that the GOP created those fears.

3. "American families are still feeling the pinch "
so, mr. boner: it isn't just "anxiety", is it?

your "economic engine" that's "firing on all cylinders" just isn't affecting the average american in any meaningful way, and you were (sort of) forced to admit it.

7. Since they created those anxieties . . .
I guess it's appropriate for the GOP to address voters' anxieties. Are the first words out of any Republican's mouth going to be "I'm sorry"? Because otherwise it will be nothing more than a bunch of words designed to make folks feel better, but devoid of any actual content or action that would alleviate those anxieties. No acknowledgement whatsoever that anything is their fault; all this bad anxiety-causing stuff just happened. "No one could have foreseen . . ."

9. The Republicans' lust for wild spending in Iraq (2-3 billion per month)
has bankrupted the nation.

So, their plan is to now blame all of the domestic social and economic problems as well as the awful international relations problems on the "Capitol Hill Democrats" when the GOP has been in control of congress for well over a decade and they are in control of the White House and SCOTUS?
:grr:
