That was one VERY costly blow job
Last night I went out to dinner with three friends and business associates. One is a fellow lefty, one is middle of the road but reasonably well informed, and the last is ...... well ..... deluded.

Only the middle of the roader works to hide his politics and we left dinner still not knowing for sure which way he leans.

Mr. Deluded is who I wish to discuss. He is a devout Catholic, but not in any way a religious nut. He is married and has three kids. He graduated from a very prestigious university and has long run his own very successful business. He and I discuss politics pretty much every time we meet. Nothing rancorous, mind you; he's more uninformed than he is a rabid righty. But he SURE does buy their bullshit.

Of late, however, he's come to see what truly deep shit this country is in ... and he's not too happy about the state of things.

Last night, he started the political stuff by saying: "So, Stinky, what do we do *now*?"

My answer was pretty quick: "Never again vote for a Republican."

He grimaced. He explained that he just couldn't go there. After all, Bill Clinton got that blow job and he (my friend) has kids.

I asked him if Adam and Steve getting married affected HIS marriage. No, he admitted. He finds gays 'disgusting', but honestly admitted that laws that protect them and grant them equal rights does not in any way impact him or his family. We explored choice and a few other issues in the same way and reached the same result. I then took it back to Clinton's blow job. It was public, he said. 'PUBLIC????' I asked, my voice now a bit raised. " 'Friend', you have a degree from Dxkx Fucking University. You're not *that* stupid. You know damned well that it didn't become a public issue until the rabid attack dogs MADE it public after years of sniffing Clinton's crotch! Come on 'Friend' ... I **know** you're not that stupid."

I then suggested we talk a walk back through history. Curiously, just the other day, right here on DU, there were several posts looking back at George McGovern. My friend is old enough to recall McGovern and the race he ran for president. I suggested we have a look back at McGovern for an understanding of how the Republicans twist things. (I ignored the fact that some of McGovern's greatest hits came from the Scoop Jackson wing of the Democratic Party - now known better as today's Neocons.)

Did you know that George McGovern was a decorated war hero and bomber pilot? Did you know that McGovern ...... and we went through some of McGovern's background and his *real* stances on issues .... and how, for pure politics, a good (probably great) man was painted as an appeasing clown ..... and so on .......

We ended by at least agreeing that it was best to look at the *person* we vote for and ignore the rhetoric of party hacks. Our conversation lasted well over an hour and a half, but in the end it came back to that damned blowjob.

He just couldn't get past that and past the notion that such selfish immorality was the way of all Dems.

Jeeeeez ....... :banghead:

But then there was hope ..... as we were leaving, and standing in the parking lot of the restaurant, he asked if Sparkly and I would join he and his wife ... and his lifelong Republican mother ..... for dinner some night soon. He said that his mother has been wavering of late, too, and 'needs to hear the other side'.

"I'll have the roast duck .... with the mango salsa ...... " :)

2. It takes moral courage and character to say "I was wrong."
Many people do not have those traits and will maintain that "I am correct" until they die.

That's what I'd say.

4. Well, what is the worst that could happen with a BJ?
So let's be blunt. What if every Democratic president had an affair while in office, but every Republican president started a war? We could go back to Reagan and follow that pattern. Ask your friend which one he would rather deal with. Which one would be worse for the USA? Ask him how spending 500 billion dollars on an illegal and immoral war is better than getting a BJ? Ask him how leaving our troops in a place where they are getting blown up every day, and giving them orders to treat Iraqi's as sub-human, leading to atrocities like the rape and murder of a 14 year old girl and her family, is better than getting a BJ? If Gore were in office those troops would have been hope or safely on bases in other countries leading a normal peacetime soldier's existance. How can the moral failure of one man in a private affair be the same or worse than the moral failings of a man how glorifies torture, rape and murder?

9. You can go far back in history - European - and see that a ruler's
sex life does not determine if he/she is a good ruler. In fact when you are talking to a religious person ask them about King David. He did not have a very good morality when it came to Bathsheba, killed her husband so he could have her, but he is seen as the greatest king in the Old Testament.

What a ruler does for his/her country is the test used in the end. Personal life is only important when like *ss it is used to destroy the country. *ss uses his religion, his wealthy position and his lies.

20. I know what you mean.
I discussed some of this with my Wife, and all she focuses on are the gay marrage issues. We go round and round on this, and can't break out of the cycle of arguments. It is some kind of disorder, and it seems like Rove and the rest of the Pukes figured out a long time ago how to feed those kind of disorders and keep people from looking at the bigger picture.
We are one F**ked up country right now...

5. It really sucks...
I sucks (no pun intended) that these people still can't get past a woman sucking a man's dick.

War? Poverty? Civil Liberties? Health care? Education? Who cares about that stuff! I can't vote Democrat because one of them had their dick sucked!

11. LOL! Especially Since...
Men like them so much themselves. And I am so sick of "educated" people who think they know SO much better what is right than the rest of we "unwashed masses." I worked for 10 years at a university and it revealed to me that these people live in ivory towers and do not have a clue about the real world. There is a saying that I believe Will Rogers said: "...the most dangerous person is the world is someone with a whole lot of book learnin' who confuse that with wisdom ..."

I have often thought that myself ~ morons like this "educated" man care more about a blow job than the treason of outing a CIA agent, lying about a war that is getting thousands killed and causing some of the most horrible misery this world has ever seen, promoting global warming for the entire planet by ignoring laws while giving away the shop to a few so they can enrich themselves and to hell with the rest of the world. He seems to be caring more about what two consenting adults do in their homes who are of the same sex, while rampant greed is eroding this country into a corporate monarchy (and Jesus spoke about greed, He did not speak about homosexuality), stealing from the middle class and poor and giving to the rich, corrupt Republicans going to prison in droves because they have illegally used the government to enrich themselves, ~ the immorality and the insults to REAL Americans go on and on.

I do not give a rat's ass how "educated" this man is, he is a moron. He is deluded and well, I hate to say it ~ he is an absolute idiot if he believes a damn blow job is more important than the above. No freaking blow job comes close and unless this man is like the Germans were in WWII.NO matter HOW much "education" he has, he is no different than the intentionally ignorant beer-gutted starry-eyed Fox viewers who think there are WMD is Iraq. If he were truly enlightened, he would not be intentionally ignorant. And don't try to blame this crap on any Democrats ~ all of it is continuing because the Republicans are in power, allow it willingly even supportting it, and they do not do anything about any of it. THE DAMN BUCK STOPS WITH THEM!!!!

MY (angry) 2 cents

Cat In Seattle <----who has no doctorate or even a bachelor's but leave most of them in the dust when I debate them because well, they are enclaved morons most of the time and cannot even find their way out of a paper bag in the real world.

P.S. My mama taught me (and I did not believe it when younger): never EVER trust a Republican. Now I see what she means ...

7. I just don’t get any guy getting so hung up over a BJ.
He has kids and is p’od that he had to explain that to them

So many of these people are just projecting their own hang-ups and discomfort

discussing sexuality, when the true discomfort should be in explaining justification for sending our youth needlessly into harms way and the death of thousands of innocents.

12. My friend
was a registered republican. She voted for Bush in '00 & '04. She now regrets doing this. Up until Bush came along for her it was all about a candidate having morals & being Christian. But after Bush she realizes that the republicans have no Christianity or morals. She believe lies are the worst sin. The fact that Bush lied is greater than what Clinton did. Use this as you talking point. People who vote republican always want to concentrate on morals. But their party has little or no morals.

16. interesting to me that your friend is a woman
I have Republican friends too, and the women have regretted Bush-and don't get hung up on Clinton's sexual hijinks. I find it interesting that in my experience it is Republican men who have a problem with it.

19. I don't know...
I'm in the "social desirability" camp. I believe this kind of guy is (or I hope, was) going to find some way to make his own ignorance, or worse, in supporting * acceptable. He wants to appear highly moral to boot, so he latches onto the BJ excuse. But if there were no BJ, he would find some other excuse, the more socially desirable the better (such as: "oh, I just could not support someone who compromises so much and won't stand on principle" bla, bla, bla). No moral person could possibly equate the consequences of Clinton's actions and those of the * administration, so those who want to appear moral really have to stretch to find some way to make it work. In a way it is easier to deal with someone who says "I'll admit I'm a racist, greedy, sexist, etc. _____. I support the party that's looking out for me." Good for you for being willing to try to win him over. Sounds as if you are making progress.
